DP tried to actually argue we haven’t hired cheap for our last 3 coaches.

Uhh dude we hired the coach from ****ing LA Tech after a 4 win season.
not going to defend him too much here, but the last 3 guys we got, we wound up landing on those guys after being told NO by several other candidates, several of whom were offered pretty big money relatively speaking. did we throw $10M at someone, no. but we didn't start our search at Dooley, Butch and Pruitt.
had to go thru several "no thanks" first.

would bet we would hear a few more this time around too.

LA has addressed the Freeze stuff. If you have a significant portion of decision makers that are a against Freeze, it will be too decisive and cause more problems than it fixes. We won't and shouldn't be hiring a new coach for the simple reason to get rid of Pruitt. We need an upgrade. If we can't secure and top tier coach we won't do it.

I keep hearing about kicking the can down the road. It's my contention that if you hire a lower tier coach, you are usually kicking it 3-4 years down the road. We've been kicking the can down the road for the last 10 years.

I asked the question a few weeks ago, would you be willing to wait one more year if it meant hiring a better coach? That as opposed to a more risky hire this year. Before you say there are many hires that would be an improvement, and I can somewhat agree with that but are they the coach to be here for a while and resurrect the program? Also, we're not privy to what kind of feedback we may be getting from prospective coaches.

I said earlier, if the recruiting imploded, there would be no reason to keep him. Well recruiting didn't implode.

I don't think anything has been decided. I think the powers in charge are still gathering all that data. They are working on their timelines not ours. We want resolution now, but that isn't happening. The holidays, Covid, Pruitt's grandfather, all are factoring into the time table.
Does this mean all the upgrade coaches have turned us down and that's why we could be stuck with Gump another year?

This admin has and still believes they're smarter than the fans. They forget we've been down this road 2 times in the last 10 years. You can't name me one coach in the last 30 years that re tooled his staff with MULTIPLE people every year and had success. Same old song and dance with this crew.

Pruitt is a spitting image of Fulmer. They both believe that running 40 times a game and first to 20 wins. They're both incredibly stubborn and they both can't relinquish any control beacuse they're the smartest Offensive, Defensive and Special teams coach in the room at all times.

Oh, and the fans are about to run them both (Fulmer for the 2nd time) out of town because in their head they can fix anything. Pretty sure after this off season if Pruitt is brought back he will have went through almost 15 assistants in 3 years from either being fired or not wanting to work with his dumba$$.

I'm willing to bet the decision to fire Pruitt has already been made. It's a matter of when, and that could be in the middle or at the end of next year. Obviously you can't say that publicly. Boosters/AD etc... probably have a small list of home run, can't miss hires they will throw the bank at once they are available and willing to come. If Pruitt isn't fired in the next few weeks I would expect a splash hire to be the next HC at UT.

If Pruitt is fired in the next couple of weeks it better be Campbell, Freeze, or Kiffin. I doubt any of those will happen, so I expect Pruitt to be here to at least start the 2021 season.
I agree with you up to the point when you mentioned that UT would "throw the bank at someone". That's not something they've ever done in the past. They definitely need to but that seems to be a stretch.

We were told no because we were not looking to pay good money for a good coach. We were wanting to get away with paying the least amount possible for an SEC coach.

And we got about as bottom barrel as you can get. I mean ****. 4 wins at LA tech. LOL

no, but it probably does mean that our list of upgrade coaches differs, maybe greatly, from the folks that are actually making the decision list.

Deer Park? Lol. Ok! And he was always going to Florida as I said. He preferred them as he was familiar with them. I already stated this. And we did not offer $7 million. LMAO!

Lol
he wasn’t going to florida is florida had hired Kelley or Frost which was their first two choices

Once those two turned florida down Mullen turned us Down

I really wasn't meaning to be snarky...sorry if it came off that way. I am just saying there is an abundance of anti-Gus Auburn info out there, they have despised him for a long time now and the reasons are valid.
I just wanted to know a if you a couple of specifics that you could state off the top of your head. Nevermind, no big deal.

oh, ok, so we were purposely tring to low ball ourselves in to bad hires for 15 years.
makes sense.

the fact some of you think this is still about the money is laughable. what can you realistically say about the situation at TN that makes this job so desirable right now? Auburn, who according to many of you has the waaay better job, has been turned down by everyone they've asked......are they offering chick fil a gift cards out as salary or something?

lol. situation/circumstance matter. especially to guys that are already in a good spot, and can choose.

Some have said it already on here, but I want to echo it. We are in a really tough spot. With how Auburn is screwing up their program right now with their own coaching search - unless we have a coach signed and sealed, I am not sure we will make a move at this point. I am sure no one wants to go down that path again. I love coaching searches and the excitement for the possibilities, but I look at Auburn and I can see us telling them, "Hold My Beer". Just my opinion.

Next year isn't going to be any better. In fact, it will be even more difficult to hire a decent coach. We will be begging a Chadwell-type coach to come here in December 2021.

and it's only fun until they actually make the introduction and you're like "wtf?"....lol.

The recruiting argument is terrible. Look at the 22 instate class. What gives you a better chance to get those guys? Pruitt winning 6 in year 4 or a new coach winning 6 or 7? A staff change next season all but guarantees those guys go somewhere else. Add that to how badly Pruitt has already recruited the state and how he did Howard and he's already behind the 8 ball. Pruitt isn't going to be able to pull the top guys from GA anytime soon, has made enemies throughout the state of TN, im going to guess made a few enemies in Alabama with dropping those guys late I would guess and TN historically has never pulled top guys out of UF. Clemson will continue to clean up in SC and NC. So where does he have left to recruit? Its asinine to keep him because most likely the next few classes would be as bad as Butchs 17 class.

I believe that is the numbet DP stated. Look at his posts since Saturday/Sunday. IDC if you disagree with it. I will take his info and opinions over your opinion anyday.
