I have always believed that if you are elite at one level, you will be elite at the next. You are either really good or you aren’t. I feel that is the case in most professions. We have yet to hire a guy who I consider elite at the lower level.

Dooley (losing record)
Butch (solid record - followed Brian Kelly)
Pruitt (elite DC - no HC resume)

On that idea, Napier and Chadwell have a better chance of their lower level accomplishments transferring to a higher level. They both had to build from nothing. They both have good HC experience. They both have won bigger than their current schools history.

I’m on record, I believe Chadwell will be the next coach of the Vols...for better or worse.

If he is we will right where we are now.

Malzahn is very intriguing to me. I would definitely take him over Pruitt for sure but i would have to get a read off him that he’s learned from mistakes and is willing to be more open to evolving his offense. In his defense tho (which he is to blame at least some) they have had some big time busts at QB that you could also credit to just bad luck.

There could be some value to going with a guy like a Chadwell. He's different. He wouldn't try to just recreate what Bama is doing. But if you hire him you got to give him few years to get it going. Not gonna have all the pieces to do what he wants overnight.

I slightly prefer Napier because I think our current players fit what he does better and he turned Louisiana around quickly, but Chadwell would be fun to watch too, and could be better long term. He's also been a head coach a lot longer. Who knows.

Personally i would hire Chadwell Bc i think he brings more charisma like Bruce pearl in a way. I’m also intrigued by his scheme Bc i think it could give us a recruiting niche which can be used an advantage over other teams like bama/UGA that recruit the same style players.

Ehh on paper it’s similar but they aren’t used the same. It’s more about moving and pulling vs width of depth.

And no to chadwell. 2022 class is crucial in state. You need a known proven face that can win over recruits without the long relationship or you just ride what you got.

It will never happen especially under Fulmer but the best hire and fit would be Kiffin. Either you win with him or watch him steal all these kids from under your nose
