Idk I’ve wondered about that too but it’s impossible to really tell. I know that under Pruitt year 1 we played way more man coverage. I think that could have a lot to do with having the DL he was left (shy, Kyle, & DT) plus you had bituli who was a true downhill bulky run stopper.... it was one of those weird times where despite changing from a 4 man front to a 3 man front... we were somehow better equipped personnel wise to actually run a 3-4 (bob welton/butch are dumbasses).
So maybe Ansley has more of a zone based philosophy and that’s where more zone is coming from or maybe they don’t trust our DL to generate any pressure on their own... which i can’t blame them but it’s their fault they haven’t found a playmaker there in 3 classes.
Not that the NCAA would block it. I don’t think they have that kind of power. It would be the eyes that come with that hire. If we have a good recruiting class, everyone then assumes he cheated to get it. Once again, this is small talk of “what if’s” being played amongst friends. I just happen to be the only one that’s not a sports writer.
He doesn't even recruit the qbs he calls plays for. Pruitt recruited Baliey and weinke recruited Shrout maybe there was a reason kiffin didn't let Chaney call playsThat is probably the craziest thing about this whole ordeal imo. Everyone on this board knows i was strongly against Chaney from day 1 but after this year and the fact the guy doesn’t even even recruit..... why in the world would you keep him? Even if we promoted within and gave anyone else a shot at OC and just brought in another person to recruit it would make more sense. Chaney is literally just taking up space at this point.
This is exactly why I tend to not say things I know or have heard..... I know two people that is/was around the sports teams at UT...... One..... was the chef who got fired for an argument with Pruitt so that opinion I shared may be a tad biased..... The other one is a manager type thing inside the sports program..... he gives me little bits of info from time to time..... most of the time spot on and a few times they turned out to be rumors....This guy my ex girlfriend met on tinder told her the same thing, always talking chit about his biscuits, says cornbread or gtfo.
I used to live in Rainsville, AL for awhile. Knowing the Sand Mountain culture makes this really easy to believe. From poster on 247:
I had to occasionally work along side Pruitt during his first two years at UT. I had read that he was a USDA Grade A Jerk, and I saw that to be true. He likes to bully people he perceives are beneath him. When he's angry it's F this F that. Several of his assistants didn't like him. Almost all of them are gone. Two just flat left at the end of one season. They didn't like him or respect him. Since assistant coaches talk like gossipy women at the country club, I don't think the better assistants around the SEC who can get a job elsewhere will come to Tennessee to work for Pruitt. That's what happened to Butch in his final season at UT. Those who think Pruitt will figure out how to be a successful head coach, if given enough time and money, are just fooling themselves. He has a three-year record that proves he is incompetent. But if he stays at UT and eventually loses his stench, he's still an incompetent POS.

IMO, part of the reason Phil is so dug in on Pruitt, he sees himself in Pruitt and really believes Pruitt can be the "legend" Phil sees himself as..I think Pruitt’s respect for Fulmer is genuine, and I’d bet his admiration for Fulmer has been made very clear in all their conversations over the years — and I 100% think that ego-fluffing is why Fulmer doesn’t want to fire him.
Hubris is a hell of a drug.
But the exact same could be said about the record this year....if JG doesn't go full JG against Kentucky and Auburn or he doesn't get hurt against Ark (he was good for one decent game a year and that was probably it) Tennessee could've just as easily beat them. If that's the case then the team is sitting here 6-4 and the hot seat isn't NEAR as hot as it is now.Honestly starting to wonder if 2019 was a fluke with our record. I mean we lost to Georgia State & we barely beat a Miss St team with a lame duck coach, beat a historically bad Vandy team only by 18 and only beat Kentucky because of a great play on the goal line. We couldve easily lost to UK, Miss St & Mizzou if it weren't for one lucky break.
I saw that Pruitt grades out at a 0.94, F+, as a head coach thus far. TLDR; Fire him, hire Freeze.
