If what AV has posted is true, which makes a great deal of sense, then it has to be played out because it's a double switch. That may mean it needs to totally tank next season unless enough big guns decide to strike now. There are several calculations there - roster, fan base, financial, etc.
Glad I'm not the one making the call. But if it was my call, I firmly believe your never chase good money after bad. Bad money is continuing to pay Phil/Jeremy to tank the primary revenue sport of the UTAD. Current program fundamentals and trends are bad and not fixable. So, I would cut them off quickly. That's big talk for somebody with no skin in the game, however, it's a business philosophy I used successfully for years when I did have skin in the game.
AV laid it out perfectly relating to the financial competition for talent with the Tesla/Boeing example. We are not in position to dictate, we have to buy our way out. But our business fundamentals are good in that we still have a viable customer base who are willing to pay a good price if we produce a good product. We have the facilities and a well recognized name in our industry. However, the customer base will continue to decline as long as we continue to offer a crappy product. That tells me that time is of the essence unless you are planning to burn it down and start over. The talent pool will dwindle even more next year because of our continued deterioration and other employers hiring coaches since the COVID excuse will be played out.
I would rather act now, cut the losers, and buy the best coaching talent since the roster and schedule are reasonable in 2021 with a strong in-state recruiting class.
