I think it was a no brainer to snag Steele. Experienced defensive alumni perfect for a young offensive head coach like Jamey Chadwell.

Pruitt is done . He doesn't want to be here and we don't want him. I think he really must have pissed some people off for them to take the path they have. I pray they can somehow end this that is acceptable to both parties. I have heard Pruitt is ready to rumble so he may be digging his own grave here.
You gotta stop bro. UT doesn't do things like that. If Pruitt was in danger of losing his job UT wouldn't hire more coaches. And If I'm Chadwell I want to interview and hire a DC of my choice, without an AD lurking over my shoulder.

I agree with Swain.

I think it’s a problem they are willing to force Steele on the next head coach, and will limit our coaching pool as a result.

Winter workouts and classes start on Monday - they need someone here running the program in the (likely) event the coaching search runs a while.
Why would we need a long search? If they know they are trending towards firing him then why have they not been talking to his future replacement?

You don't want to bring in people that only have one.
I want to bring in people that have talent and a coach that knows how to motivate that talent. These are 18-20 year old kids, they are going to make mistakes. The game has changed and the whole Rudy story is nostalgic, but hired guns win the fight these days ... not the hard working walk on.

There’s a lot of SEC experience for a young HC in the SEC. I’m not saying it’s going to happen by any means but there’s a few other rumblings that have been put out there by ATL too.

No...UT gonna UT, failing miserably at public perception and continuing to p1ss off their fan base with unacceptable mediocrity.

I'll bet he's glad to see his name on my Kadoo's Honor Roll next to Fulmer's. I believe John Adams has an absolutely masterful handle on what UT is doing here. Adams says that Kevin Steele is going to be your next Interim HC ... He's right on the money.

Did a really nice piece of reporting in digging into the language of Pruitt's deal. The bottom line is that Tennessee doesn't need to find level one violations to fire him for cause. Blake has done a really great job of coloring the conversation here.

This pisses me off... we have learned nothing... you have had since November to be feeling coaches out to make this coaching search smooth as possible.. Hell, Texas even gave us the blue print on how to get this done! and we brought Steele in to be the interim for a drawn out coaching search where he will most likely end up getting the job.. PATHETIC!!!

Is any part of what you just typed factual?

Absolutely nothing to gain by anything happening this week with Pruitt and a lot to lose.

A week from today is when this should go down if it’s going to happen.

I didn't see that from AV. Good deal. Hopefully it happens. I wasn't huge on Chadwell at 1st, after watching some videos and the current pool of coaches ill take him. He's a lot better than what we currently have.

If Pruitt is out and Marrone is the replacement, why would we need Steele the interim?
we wouldn't. just more guessing.

i don't see the point in hiring Steele to force him on a new coach. that's what got Auburn way down their list....so it makes no sense to just pick up where they left off.

Fulmer likes Steele, and at the end of the day it may just boil down to the fact that Fulmer and Steele are boys, and he trusts him, and wanted him on this staff in some way shape or form, period. if nothing else, he's a nice insurance policy for fulmer.

and...they're not sure what direction they're going to go with Ansley...maybe he's retained but re assigned to DB's/Co-DC, and Steele is gonna be some other position coach/Co-DC.

and while it's certainly possible they could still fire pruitt while retaining Steele, to me that seems the least likely because of the point above. the only way that works is if you already have a coach in place just waiting on the word, but even if you did, why would you hire his potential DC ahead of time and allow your lame duck coach to announce and take credit?

so, i go back to what i've been saying for a couple of weeks ago...none of this makes any sense, but @butchna i've flipped again, i think he's staying.

Let’s be honest, IF they fire Pruiit, we all expect the search to last awhile. That would be the TN way. I would be pleasantly surprised if they had someone lined up and announced shortly after. I would be even more shocked if it wasn’t a bargain bin hire.

Fulmer was likely just an advisor here. This was Randy Boydo's decision, negotiated with Chancellor.

I could easily see Fulmer sticking his neck out for Pruitt, in an advisory capacity. But hell, he's earned that right.

maybe. but Fulmer and Steele aren't strangers and i'm sure Fulmer is giddy to have him on this staff, whether he orchestrated it or not. and i doubt he was cut out of that decision. how the deal got done and working out all the details of the contract etc...sure, i think you're right. but i'm betting fulmer wanted him.

How in the world can they allow a coaching search to go for a while? This needs to be an almost seamless transition. Can we please try to do what Texas did Sark? No fan fare, no public embarrassment, just fire the guy and announce a new guy almost the same day.
