The thing that disgusts me is the blatant buddy system Fulmer is working by!

Which is why we are where we are as a program. They would rather it stay within the club members control than excel as a program. Blatantly obvious since Dickey and Johnson retired.

Hyams source is the Haslam family, I know that as fact. Because when Trey Wallace was screaming the Haslam family loaned UT it's plane to get Gruden, Hyams quickly debunked that and like you said everyone called him a know nothing clown.

We have too many boosters trying to play kingmaker, and too many access journalists trying to elbow each other around for tidbits of info on a dying football program.

Hyams, Adams, Swain, Ainge, Mathews, Knox News, Volquest, GoVols247, Brice, and then a murders row of folks like Trey Wallace, the AtoZ sports guy, and other would-be journalists and recruiting analysts...

Sure, maybe we have a rabid fanbase. But I also think we have a bloated media market more than willing to stab each other in the back to run with any nugget of info from a booster. Like too many raccoons fighting in a trash can...

Not a big Hyams fan. However, he makes the call on events after he has confirmed them as most people know. He's no Trey Wallace. With Phil in the chair and the Haslam's active with Jabran, he has a bit of access again.

As an example, Brohm was coming until he blew it. Hyams would never go to ESPN with it if he was not. If releasing it too soon caused the back out like has been reported, I'm really glad Brohm did not come. I want a competent HC that wants to be here - period. No matter what excuse, no matter the press, no matter perceived hurt feelings - whatever. Coaches are paid a fortune that any of us would be willing to accept even with the snark and trashing they receive from the public at times. You need to have a burning desire to be a Vol HC, not just a HC somewhere in a P5 or the SEC. Orange blooded fans know the difference. Hasn't been one since Johnny and Phil.

I'm in agreement with your sentiment here. Especially when you talk about needing a HC that want to be at UT, not because it's a P5 job, but because it's Tennessee. We continue to make assumptions about which candidates would see the Tennessee HC job as their ultimate destination job (dream job if you will). However, the problem being, the list of candidates that see UT in this light in the midst of the turmoil we've experienced over the past 15 years is limited. I can't help but wonder if, IF, Kevin Steele ends up the interim, or even HC he doesn't view the Tennessee job as a destination job. And if that is the case, could he have enough success by building a staff and winning enough to make the job more desirable than it's been recently? Maybe he could be that 'bridge coach' to stabilize the program?

I'm not rooting for this scenario by any means, however with the potential addition of Garner, I'd be intrigued to see what his coaching staff could look like if given the chance.

How do you know he’s more competent? His record at Baylor suggests otherwise
That was 20 years ago. You want Fulmer back? Because Fulmer was winning a bunch of games 20 years ago.

He has the temperament to to be a HC, and he's always been an actual developer of talent, which is why I think he's better than Pruitt.

Worst case he is named interim for a year, which is better than Pruitt coming back IMO. I do not think he is a candidate to be named full time HC.

No it isn’t. Interim for a year guarantees we lose the ‘22 class

Sounds about right but I don't believe any Boosters that matter are talking to Trey or AtoZ, I believe those types see stuff on a message board from like babyvol or atlanta and then run with it. Trey came out of left field in 2017 and went on every show that would have him with his "grumors" but when you paid close enough attention he was saying everything MIT would say a day after the fact and I mean down to a T. Then he somehow turned that into a job with Fan Run radio and those poor kiddos are gonna die on that hill, after all this is said and done and they bring Pruitt back I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see them lose their media credentials

So does firing Pruitt next season. At least with an interim coach you can tell players that there is planned discontinuity instead of unplanned discontinuity.

Especially if Steele plans on sticking around on the defensive side of the ball.

Who are some good ol boys from back in the day out there as offensive coaches currently?

I agree. That's why I think if they're planning to transition to KS as the HC, then it won't come in the form of 'interim'. That way they'll at least have eliminated any question in regards to who's leading and it gives him and his coaching staff almost a full year to get the '22 class settled.

Truth be told, I'm not sure how differently recruits would view KS vs. JP as HC. He can point to a long successful record of running an SEC level defense and getting guys to the NFL, just like CJP can, and while his HC record is abysmal, it was also a long time ago, while CJP seems to be inventing new ways to be unsuccessful on any given Saturday currently.

If the rumors are true about Neids being in hot water and Pruitt is responsible for the actions of his staff how can you justify throwing him to the wolves for a 3-7 coach in year 3 with double digit losses to Kentucky and Arkansas?

I think he's more competent than Pruitt because of what he was able to do at Auburn. Steele is the reason Gus was fired in 2020 and not 2016 or 2017. I honestly don't put much stock in his head coaching record, however terrible it was, at a trash program over 20 years ago. Steele also wasn't groomed by Saban, which is a plus. He worked for Saban on a couple of occasions, but wasn't groomed by him.

If I had confidence that Pruitt would let him run the defense, I wish we would have just gone ahead and made Steele DC.
