That's good enough for me! Fire up the Lane Train! Let the Hughmors fly!

It's been mentioned that Peyton has made it known he will have input in this search
Completely agree that he has plenty of influence. But it’s clear that there are a lot of influences at UT and they don’t pull in the same direction. Ever. Which is what is preventing us from ever getting an elite coach. Because they can’t guarantee full support from everyone.

Agreed. UWW has also kept winning without him but not quite at the same level. So is it just somewhat easy to win there or did he build a juggernaut?
They are like the North Dakoka St of Division III. They win seemingly no matter who the coach is.

Division III is simply just not a very competitive level of competition, so it seems possible that they just put way more resources into the program than everybody else so they always have the best players and almost always win. It isn't like FBS where you have a number of schools that all put in equivalent amounts of resources.

Some are even more blatant. People just look the other way and consider it a cost of doing business at a power program where winning grows the bottom line. UT did the same... until it was expedient to do otherwise.

Bingo and now that Plowman has been plugged in the next coach won’t be able to operate like our competitors. Idiots committed program suicide here

Just going to say this before AP has a chance to put this on the fans and firing Pruitt. Too Too has been gone and not coming back for a while. I know AP will say if Pruitt wasn’t fired that he would have come back. Completely false.

Where did you see this? I thought after the trip out to see him things were good?

He took over a UWW program that was very, very good prior to him. They were runner-up two years in a row before he got brought in as HC and got them over the hump to obviously insane success. I think he'd be an intriguing hire, but no ties to the southeast or P5 football are a major risk.

If they go fishing and no upper tier coach bites, do you let Steele interim next season to let the smoke die down? I say that because I think that's what is about to happen. Recruiting that '22 class will be all but impossible. That early signing period hurts us yet again but you can't make a hurried hire for one recruiting class.

One other issue with doing this, besides the recruiting class, is who can he get to come in and be position coaches? Over half the staff has been fired, took another job, or won’t be hired back on an expiring contract. This isn’t even counting the support staff that was fired as well.

Does Steele have a big enough network of coaches where he can convince some of them to come coach for possibly only 1 year? That’s a tough sell. The amount of high quality coaches that would do that is slim, which means Steele would already be on an uphill climb.

Add in the recruiting aspect you mentioned and it’s really a no win situation. Hope we don’t have to go that route.

Interested to get everyones opinion on what happens to recruiting in the next 2-3 years, and next 10 years. Minor bump and back to business as usual? Running a tight ship and dropping out of tier 2 of the recruiting powers (5th-15th)? Does a splash hire fix everything, maybe even improve recruiting?

This search has to be an all-out effort to make every plausible P5 candidate say no. It is extremely important, more important than it has ever been, to hire a coach that has shown a track record of success as a P5 HC.
