AP just posted the Hubbs/50 gif in response to a post about Garner coming onto staff after someone questioned his first gif, which was stone-cold looking at watch. Still don't think this means that Steele is the HC just that everyone would take those two on their defensive staff.
It's Steele guys. Just prepare yourselves.

UT planned on hiring an experienced HC last time, too. It was just publicly bungled over and over while the options dwindled. You make a mockery of a search long enough and people don't want to be part of it.
Heard an interesting stat on the radio yesterday and I hadn't thought about it.

When was the last time Tennessee hired a head coach that had P5 head coach experience?.........

Johnny Majors.

I think you could be right. There’s no doubt they’ve already spoken to their new HC many times about staff. And you would think this next HC has to be offensive minded with the way the game is now and our candidate pool certainly suggests that’s the case.

Now, it could be that more than one possible HC is good with Steele and Garner, not just Chadwell. I bet many from the list would be good with those guys on staff.

But if it is Chadwell, due to his lack of big league experience, it would certainly make sense to get a couple proven top tier coaches in place ahead of the hire, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
I just hope this staff is not being forced on anyone. Steele and Grarner are awesome names but if this coaching staff doesn't gel, then the team chemistry will not gel. Team chemistry and the players/staff buying in are the keys to getting us back quickly. If the new coach can't get everyone on board, we'll be coach searching in 3-4 years again.

Maybe my memory is bad, but I don't remember Currie even really being in the discussion. It was Phil and Blackburn and then Currie got hired.
Could be revisionist history but I seem to remember the entire fanbase celebrating because of course they were going to hire Blackburn, then UT admin does what it does so well and said "Screw what you want we hired Curry", and then history.

O"Brien will last at least 5 and he might get it done. He is not trash. Not the hire I want but not trash.

You don't get the control that he would want in college football unless you're Saban or Dabo. He may be alright, but I personally don't think he'd be a good fit here.

Currie was a shock you are correct.

Knowing we have 3 “in house” candidates last time and they are have serious issues now it makes me uneasy that we appear to only have 2 “in house” candidates this time.
maybe we need a complete outsider this time

Anyone who uses Gruden as a smokescreen to line up Greg Schiano has something wrong between the ears. Thanks for Vitello but now WF can deal with him.
Yeah that little smile he gave when asked if he already had his guy with half the state already hoping it was Gruden tells you all you need to know about Currie.

perfect for me.

Tons of experience and a HC that stays out of the way.

I was under the impression that what really torpedoed his relationship with his players were his GM decisions, which he got control over just for that final season and was terrible at. Was he widely disliked by his players before that too?
I think so?

I think he had issues with DeAndre Hopkins almost the entire time he was there. And then he had issues with JJ Watt this past season. I don't think he had a very good relationship with Deshaun Watson.

I think he had a team first mentality. The stars aren't above the team. Sounds great.. But rarely works out in the NFL. The stars make more money than anyone in the building, including you.

Maybe he's just better off coaching in college? It's certainly possible.

Drew is battling. He’s had pretty frequent blood transfusions due to his low counts. He has had chemo about every 3-4 weeks. It’s surprisingly not been as bad as I envisioned, but kids are a lot tougher than adults. He has had strength gains (Praise God) and recently started wanting to eat meals. He’s down quite a bit of weight. I’ll take the small victories right now (like the appetite returning) all day long. God is bigger than that though and this has drawn him so close to Him. 🙌🏻

Thank you for asking. #LiftUpDrew
Continued prayers, for Drew and family. Everything pales in importance given this young man’s battle.

There's a few key things that need to be hammered down. How could Steele and/or Garner be "vetted" if we are not even sure of our AD, let alone coach. Steele is either going to be the HC, or they truly have a gentleman's agreement with Ingram/Gilbert and have a coaching waiting in the wings. As much as I'd love the latter, the former seems much more realistic

New hires better be good at doing more with less-- bc we're going to have less. It'll be interesting to see how UT handles the release requests and imminent portalers. UT generally helps players who want to leave, but the numbers are escalating. Steele has his hands full and not much help.
