I mean I can't really explain it. I guess he's been out of the game for a while, not sure he would be great today. not to mention he's a defensive guy and we need offense in today's league. I just don't really think that highly of him. I think he was in a good spot at OU with little competition and did well. Not sure he could repeat that here.

So no Stoops who went 190-48 with 10 Big12 Championships and a NC

Not at all. Herman plus Steele is a home run

But you think Herman is a home run who went 32-18 in the Big12 with zero titles with the most talent in the league.

I’m usually with you on football takes.

Not this one.

I went and took a shower for this event. I wanted to look good for our new AD.

Something that isn't adding up in my head still is the Steele hire.

Did they do this randomly and just allow it or was there a master plan.

Does a new coach come in and keep him and add Garner (or does Steele hire him now)?

Was this all already discussed?

Seems odd that Steele would come here just to be let go.

But again maybe they really didn't know and thought PF and JP were going to be here long term.

Something just doesn't add up.
Seems like whoever they are going after for HC is going to be heavily offensively oriented and they just went ahead and got a good DC to bridge the gap.

Or it could have just been some random hail mary by Fulmer and Pruitt

You are right...it just doesn't make sense. Right now, I am going with:

a. This has all been done for a while and the HC has also been unofficially hired and OK with Steele
b. Steele did this as a favor to his friend (Fulmer) knowing what would happen but happy for the extra cash
c. Steele was hoping to do at UT what he attempted at AU

Open to other options.

I like my theory that we hired Steele to send to Ole Miss for Kiffin.

Steele's getting paid by the barn either way. Is it possible he has been brought in as a consultant and doing "a solid" for his alma mater to help steady things during this transition?

They scared me with the heaping of praise on fulmer.
Also signing off on the extensions still feel like a finger in the eye, but they nailed this. And I will give credit where it’s due.
Im excited yet still very cautious
I hope that Phil had praise heaped on him, and was present at the press conference to begin with, purely to keep a gaggle of boosters (Thunder, Jones, Anderson, perhaps others) happy and feeling like they are in the fold. All are personal buddies of Fulmer. I hope Plowman and Boyd found it almost impossible to publicly praise him for the job he'd done as AD.

Phil needs to be given access to his box in Neyland and then be given nothing else, ever again, from this University. He was a great coach 25 years ago but has wrecked this program twice. He's done, and never needs to be heard from ever again in any sort of "official" capacity.
