Eh that’s over blown. They went to a bowl game 4/5 years before he was hired and two of those years they won 10 games and finished in the top 10 once. People who act like he walked into scorched earth aren’t really being honest.

Truth..Bama was thin on skill position talent, but they were solid along both lines.

You are telling me Bob Stoops is an ideal candidate, worth 7 million a year, and Phil is not a candidate at all? You are gonna have to walk me through the math on that one. I'm not following.

Personally, I don't think we should be dumpster diving behind the retirement home at all. That's just me though.

Neither are realistic. But, Stoops is 10 years younger than Fulmer. Fulmer started his tenure at an almost record-setting level. However, it ended badly. Over the past 4 years of their tenure:

Fulmer: 29 - 21 (21 of his 52 career losses)
Stoops: 41 - 11 (three 11 win seasons)

Fulmer began struggling at a program that consistently recruited top 5-10 classes and was forced out. Stoops retired and privately told reportersrs that he didn't want to overstay and eventually be forced out like other legends had been (Fulmer, Bowden, Mack Brown, etc.).

I have no idea who DW will pick. I just know that it will probably make sense to him, the team, their families, boosters, the other stool legs, SEC and NCAA. With that in mind I will fully support whoever it is. Like everybody I have my short list of faves, but the stakeholders above have more skin in the game than me.

One thing we aren't taking into consideration is Covid. White is most likley in an office with his assistants conducting Zoom meetings with potential hires right now and won't fly anywhere until a coach has accepted the job. Makes it harder to speculate.

Hard to make that comparison. Riley put NCAA on notice with what he did at East Carolina under a defensive coach. Then did same at Oklahoma under a defensive coach. It was his install. Elliot took over a Chad Morris Install. We don’t know if he would have same success with his own install.

How is bob stoops a defensive coach? I know he cut his teeth as a DC, but since the moment he got his first head coaching job, all they did was score points with several different OCs.

Two heisman winning QBs and set records with their offense. He must have something to do with the kind of offense he wants to run and just about all his OCs were putting up points and yards.

but @SLICKYINC put Pat Fitz out there earlier...and i wont' argue a thing about him as a coach, and what he's done to run that program....i acknowledge all the good, and that, really, that would be a great hire.

i still couldn't care less. that hire does nothing for me. i mean, i wouldn't show up with andy at the rock wanting to protest or anything...but it just doesn't do anything for me.


the flip side...i'll acknowledge every wart Kiffin has....and say "LFG!"

Phil got lazy. Thought winning a NC was a free ticket to HC at Tennessee with no expectations of winning. Slacked on recruiting and made poor decisions on staff. Phil has done enough damage to Tennessee.

Stoops is the opposite. What happened after he won a NC? He won 9 more Big 12 Championships and played in another NC game that Oklahoma lost. He didn't get fired in shame by having losing seasons. He retired still a successful coach having won the Big 12 in both his final two years at Oklahoma.

But I don't think Stoops would come here, or even return to college.

I know there’s a list and I know he’s on it, and also know many of the “hot” names being rumored right now aren’t. Healy’s more of a contingency name, but DW has had him on his contingency list at UCF if Heupel got another job, and you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think DW has kept some of those names in play. Remember - everyone is saying the same thing - DW is not approaching this like any Tennessee search in the modern era
