There is just as much a risk in hiring a current HC. Already having a head coaching job doesnt mitigate the risks of hiring him.

Tennessee is having to add 2 - 3 years front loaded with all guaranteed money to typical contract structure because of likely sanctions - just to get candidates to the table. Not a good place to start.

Ok? This isn't 30 years ago. I'm saying TN still has name recognition to where you dont have to take the risk of hiring a coordinator. You know who else was a coordinator and possibly one of the worst head coaches in TN history? Jeremy Pruitt.

You know who had been sitting HCs and compete with Pruitt for that title? Dooley and Butch.

Pruitt and Butch could recruit. Can he coach? Fleck can.

I like Elliott, but it's a gamble because he's an unknown. Fleck has proven he can do more with less. He could turn around our program. Quickly.

Id prefer someone who has ran a successful business (program) over a start up any day. I like my chances with the person who has experience dealing with being a CEO. Im not sure how thats hard for people to comprehend. A coordinator does about 1/10th of what an actual head coach does.

I used to be a huge UT purist. After all the nuclear bull crap, it opened my eyes that we need fresh blood. I understand gaurding ourselves from infractions. But, it is rampant...has to be.

Why we cant go get a deal done with Hugh Freezenis beyond me.

Cool thing about an Elliot hire is it might help knock Clemson down a notch. They’ve benefitted from a lot - and staff continuity is definitely one of the major things.

It's for 5 years and toward a scholarship, not the school. He wanted the slogan that had a special meaning to him and did something nice in the process.

I think it’s sad and disgusting that he exploits the story of his son and uses goofy phrases to raise his profile. Screams Butch...but worse.

Elliott doesn't have the personality red flags of Pruitt. Also Saban is Bama. Dabo's assistants are Clemson. Why does he insist so hard on keeping them if he is such a good coach?

We honestly could hire Kiffin and Freeze this go round. We just domed want to. Kiffins is even worse. I semi get Freeze with our current NCAA issues but I’d tell them to kick rocks.

So the opinion on Tony Elliott is formed because Saban has had assistants who have crashed and burned as HCs? People putting too much emphasis on being a coordinator or a current HC IMO. We are paying an AD nearly 2M a year (among the highest) to do a job like he has done in places before with tremendous success. If he likes a current coordinator for this HC position, people probably want to give that a chance.
