meh, Maybe this turns out to be a great hire. I HOPE it turns out to be a great hire. But right now, I feel like...

Gonna take a break and go look for my optimism. Maybe I left it in my coat pocket?

I see what your saying but we have to hope for better than that. This coach needs to get us back to competing and winning SEC championships..this bridge coach idea just won’t work for us.
We wont know what we have for the next 2-3 years considering the mess this program is in. I wont call him a bridge coach until or unless he proves otherwise. Support him and the program and maybe we will have the stability we need.

Butch wasn't a specialist on either side of the ball. Heupel also followed a guy who built up a program, but at least he's highly regarded as an OC/playcaller/QB developer.
That would be dandy if he were hired to be an OC/play caller/QB developer. How is he as a HC/recruiter?

Let’s be honest with the way our fanbase is 70-75% of ya’ll were never going to like whomever Danny White hired...it’s funny how people question the guy that has athletic administration and college athletics in his blood quite literally one of the best ADs that we could have landed...we all loved Phil because “he is Tennessee football” yet he probably authored the worst hire in school history. If we left the coaching hire up to our “fans” we’d be in worse hell with the NCAA then we are now. The fans expectations and reality of the situation are two entirely different beasts.

Butch wasn't a specialist?

He coached every single position on the offensive side of the ball except OL. He interned at the NFL, won 4 conference championships, was WR coach during Rich Rodriguez's high-flying WV days. Plus like I alluded to, he had way more experience as a HC over Heupel. Heupel's been a HC for three years in one of the most talent-rich states in America and has obviously regressed as a program.

People seem to be calming down now, but we'll have another meltdown when UCF hires Freeze or some other candidate that is more exciting that Heupel. UCF people aren't sad to see Heupel go.
