Anyone know the status on our players in portal? Wasn't yesterday the last day to enroll in a school to transfer?

All that throwing money around stuff didn't come from me. I think they were prepared to spend more for certain guys, but IDT a blank check strategy was ever in play. Some people can be bought-- not all, but some. And UT had options that weren't pursued. All in all, this could have gone three different ways, and I think it went the predictable path.

It should not be surprising to people that the insiders on this board who are rumored to be boosters get wound up in "WE HAVE ALL THIS MONEY TO SPEND" rumors and gossip.

I was at UT for the end of Buzz and beginning of Bruce. Can confirm the night and day difference, and the energy Bruce brought to campus. That’s why people were signing petitions for him. It wasn’t just winning - everyone knew the guy loved UT and wanted to be here.

It is hard to adequately describe the difference Bruce made at UT to those who weren’t there for the before and directly after. Basketball was effectively a dead sport until he injected the biggest shot of energy on campus that I’ve ever witnessed. He did that by showing he cared about us and what was happening at UT overall. He became a huge part of campus life and shaped the identity of the fanbase by being involved. We supported him because he went out of his way to support us.

I saw a Tweet I believe it was that someone posted that said Johnson, Morris, and Crouch coming back but I couldn't get it confirmed.

Watching the UCF game vs Cincy so far they have put two of three drives together. Got lucky on a punt fumble by Cincy for field position but they are fast, use the whole field for routes, definitely watch film. Several offsides on Cincy because they simply watched film. 14-3 UCF right now.

I believe we called Campbell and Fickell and got no real quick, which we expect but you still call just in case.

Then it went Franklin (Gundy 2.0), Elliott, and then JH. I don’t think they seriously considered Fleck or Dykes.

I think Fleck was in the top 3 or 4. Him & White worked together at Northern Illinois and he's a guy Danny probably had some sort of comfort level with, like he does with Josh. But I'd say it was a quick "no" as well, likely in a more friendly way though. He also may have talked to Dykes, but with his sister being the associate AD at SMU he likely never serious pursued that lead. More of a "we know ya and want to help get some buzz around your name"

Also something Danny hinted at, which I believe he took advantage of was some of these "candidates" could have also been brains he was picking about the UT situation, just my thoughts on that. Especially a guy like Dykes who has been around awhile and spent time in the SEC as well as the south coaching.

Yeah, that's what bugs me the most...VN here's third hand about a random poster on VQ saying we were talking "upto" 8 million a year "big bucks" and suddenly that's the gospel. I highly doubt UT having just paid White big bucks AND a buyout, wanted to just walk up to the next guy (regardless of who it was) and pay them Dabo/Saban money (without them being either of those guys). Some people are too gullible around here.

Heupel at 4 million a year for 6 years AND him paying any of his own buyout...that's arguably the best freaking situation you could ask for. I mean like it's been pointed out Elliott has Clemson talent, hard not to look like an offensive genius there. And we can look at the recruiting rankings for UCF, even if Frost was "killing" it in that department they sure as hell don't have anywhere near the talent of even the weakest SEC team does.

I'm not gullible in the sense that I think we have to do that. I'm gullible maybe in believing AV saying we were going to spend FU money. Not just anybody. I think that was AV who said money would not be an issue. The truth is we're operating in the same budget category as MO, UK, SC, etc. and have been for over 12 years. You sort of get what you pay for. jmo.

UT is giving some pretty sweet deals, with significant salary bumps and escalators, risk-mitigation clauses and built-in deal extenders. So strap in-- UT intends to ride with these guys for a while.

As far as people paying their own buyouts, it's good PR... but there's often behind-the-scenes help with that.

White can feed that stuff to them. When did Franklin get that pub you said he'd get by formally turning the job down you predicted? I'm sure they reached out and got the "nos" they were looking for.

True. I think they knew Franklin and Elliott would most likely say no and they had Heupel whenever they wanted. So they kicked the tires but always knew they had JH. And DW has familiarity with him and what he can do. The man was 28-8 and you can’t scoff at that, no matter what he inherited. Plus you get him at $4 million a year. I’m sure they knew he could put up points, which is how you win. This gives you $4-5 million for a defensive staff and make big hires. Let’s hope that happens. They need to nail the defensive hires.

I'm thankful for Dabos big mouth. Elliot would have been a disaster. We got the right guy. Dabo will Wish he let Elliot take the job after he sees what Heupel builds.

I think Elliott would have been solid. Dabo needs to give his assistants the opportunity to go. I hope crap like this gets out and maybe it will be harder for him to get quality assistants.

Oh the AD clearly stated the #1 target was JH. I am unsure what you are trying to say here.

You said you were glad Dabo talked TE out of the job and that we got the right guy. If he went to TE first, shouldn’t that tell us something? As for what the AD said, they always say that but surely you don’t believe that. It is crystal clear we went deep into trying to get Franklin for one.

There are absolutely no similarities lol. Urban took a 2-9 Bowling Green team and won 8 games his first year there. 9 games the next season. Went to a 5 win Utah team and won 10 games the following season, and followed that with a 12-0 season. JH has progressively lost more games each season. Don’t try and spin this as a hidden gem hire. It’s another bandaid on a bullet wound hire.
