He's still in the portal, so I assume he could still transfer and enroll in the summer. I'm hoping JH has evaluated his team and is taking a good look at who in that portal could improve it.

Hell, he should just start having our kids contact kids in other programs and try to get them to come here, since that seems to be AOK with the NCAA.
That's kind of what I was thinking with HB and Gilbert. Our offense should be pretty appealing to him.

Tbf, 200-210lbs RB's and 6'0+ speedy WR's aren't exactly lining up to play in the AAC

Tulane’s starting RBs that were top 15 nationally in rushing were 230, 200, and 225 last year.

Starting WRs are 6’ and 6’2”, both extremely fast.

The AAC is not the SEC, but it’s more competitive than most realize.

I think recruiting to UT is so overblown. I see folks here and on VQ worried about this staff being able to recruit. When hasn’t UT recruited well? I’ve been following recruiting very closely since 2009. We’ve had some bad coaches lately and how many times have we not finished in the top 25? 15? 10? 5?

Butch Jones had TWO top 5 classes. But he couldn’t develop and coach. If not for Dobbs he would have had zero success at UT.

Recruiting has been fine. You know what hasn’t been good? Developers of talent, coaches that know how to scheme for their roster and their opponents.

Our new coach has a pretty good track record of developing QB’s, scoring a ton of points and winning games. I can promise you if he does that at UT recruiting will be as good as we’ve seen in awhile.

The good thing here is he has HC results to point to on top of long track record as OC/QB development. So he isn’t really selling hope. He is selling results offensively. He also is taking over a roster on that side of the ball that he can hit the ground running with for instant success in that side of the ball. I think it will be easy for him to find offensive players to have success with. Good thing there is you can have successful offense with lower ranked players too if you have too.

The defining moment is Defensive staff. He really needs a proven voice and staff on that side or he could get behind recruiting defensive talent where you really need those highly ranked guys.

Who is we? Every one acts like Vol Twitter and Vol fans are some kind of monolithic hive mind. It's a huge and diverse fan base. There are crazies (although Bama tops the crazy list), but the vast majority are reasonable people who expect better than they are getting.
Yeah. The biggest negatives going for UT is local media.
You can read an article or listen on radio to something from some other schools homer’s and you know from the positive spin that’s that is what it is without having to check.

Listen to TN radio or read an article from a TN guy and they seem to enjoy trashing the program.

I mean the guy played at OU, was runner up for the Heisman, coached at OU and MO, right? He probably knows all this. I mean one of the reasons he came here might have been that he is more familiar with P5 football than he is with G5 football. jmo.

this absolutely has nothing to do with Philosophy in Offense or defense just because he was all of these things somewhere else doesn’t mean it will translate over here lol my whole point is we had a coach here who thought leaner and faster players would work in the SEC and they all ended up on a stretchers.if JH wants to win big in the SEC he better bring them boys that look like they came from Nebraska and Wisconsin especially up front (OL) 😂😂😂

there's a reason folks at P5 aren't signing up to play all those teams in non conf. they'd rather play 2nd tier or lower p5 conf teams than some of the G5's from that conf.

hell, i'm glad to take on Pitt next year. i want no part of some of those AAC teams lol.......

I’m still back here on page 5373, but I have observation. I feel that with CJH we have a better shot of winning some games next year that I wouldn’t feel like CJP could win next year just because if CJH offensive production. I just hope he gets a full Spring and Summer practice to fully implement his offense.

That butch jones S**t won’t work here!..I hope someone let’s him know that... lean and small more agile OLineman/skill players doesn’t work in the SEC.this is why I’m nervous.
He made the comment in his press conference that the biggest difference between the sec and everyone else was the line of scrimmage. Big fast dlineman. I take that as he knows what he needs on the oline to offset that.

Ol Dan was making a business decision too. He was hedging. If CFB wasn't played, then he could write months of "I told you so" columns (which I think he gets greater enjoyment out of anyway). If he was wrong, then most people forget (except VolTwitter) and he has the actual games to write about. I really think that many of these sports journalists are 1) people who got bullied on the playground by the athletes as kids and 2) people who wanted to go into "hard" news and cover stuff that is actually important, but for whatever reason it didn't work out. It is negative personal experiences from their past that drive those kinds of articles. Poor Christine Brennan said that the day the Big Ten said football would be played was "the darkest day in the history of the Big Ten," and this is the same conference that had a child raping monster on the loose at Penn St for 30 years. What a miserable person.

Clay Travis is obnoxious and will say anything for clicks, but at least he put his money where his mouth was. He was adamant that sports be played and always predicted that they would be played. He had a lot more to lose than someone like Wolken did if he was wrong.
All of this. Basically the entire USA Today staff is a complete joke to go along w/ their politics. It’s almost impossible for them not to write anything w/o having some sort of political slant to it.

eh, he's not butch jones. so i'll wait and see, but i don't think he's coming in here trying to go backwards in terms of personnel....he's been big12 and SEC before.....so he's got a frame of reference, that cbj didn't have....and i don't get the impression that he's gonna start talking about the infallibility of 'his' system any time soon. so i'm less worried about it....
