I think Butch could do pretty good at Arkansas State. They’re paying him $850k/year plus incentives. He has a $2m buyout but I think he’s trying to restart his career. Our severance pay ran out last year.

I’m not sure what his career trajectory is, probably from A-State to some ACC, B1G, or B12 school. I don’t think he ever comes back to the SEC. I think the job here was just too big for him. I think the job here is perhaps too big for most coaches. I think Butch lost control of the job here and I think that is a flaw in his character, not so much moral, more like fortitude. jmo.

I watched his introductory press conference but skipped a lot of his answers to questions because he’s as long winded as ever and it’s mostly all coach-speak. He didn’t really talk about Tennessee other that thanking Saban for accepting a rival coach into his organization back when we fired him.

He said he thought he improved as a coach by working for a defensive minded head coach. Also said A-State had the best facilities and best football program in the country. Said he had 972 text messages since his hire had been announced 4 days prior. I thought that was vintage Butch.

In most ways he was the same old Butch but I’ve always thought he was a smart man so I do think he’ll likely do good there. Of course he’s in the conference with Appy State and Coastal Carolina so it may not be in his first year. Time will tell. I was never fond of his personality but I'm glad I've reached the point where I can genuinely wish him well. jmo.

How would you feel if you were an alum of that school like I am with my undergrad degree?

I believe the same was said when Kiffin went to USC, and then he got fired on a tarmac.

We'll see what happens over the next two seasons, and what the 'AA decides after we self-impose. I think we'll end up with something slightly greater than a slap on the wrist from them, since we cleaned house and hired someone with the pedigree of DW.

But excuses only go so far once the pads come on, and I think Lane would agree.
There is a difference..... Kiffin took over a program not too far removed from championships..... we are just struggling to be competitive on a yearly basis.... we need to have patience with this coach and allow him to get past sanctions to see what he can do..... sort of like when majors took over and the patience shown him.... I believe that is the best approach unless the bottom absolutely falls out.

What other data points do you have that gives you optimism???? News flash, every team was impacted by Covid. If COViD was just in Florida then I agree about the anomaly but that just isn’t the reality.
28-8 is better than any coach we've hired during the modern era. You can't simply ignore that. How many other coaches with a near 80% win percentage and high powered offenses were interested in this job?

Not every team missed most of fall camp and had 10 opt outs on their teams so Covid didn't effect all teams equally.

I am cautiously optimistic but more than anything I am going to wait and see before making a decision about whether he can succeed here. If you've already made up your mind about Heupel before he's even coached a season here, then you're not giving him a fair shake. No one here believes you can predict the future so you should wait and see with the rest of us.

Everything's too quiet on the hill. All this makes me think that there might be something going on between Steel and Heupel.
I’m not as concerned about the DC talk because it’s obvious the info moving forward will be tight lipped.
I am uneasy that we aren’t getting any recruiting info. That’s the type of info that shouldn’t be tight lipped and information that UT would want promoting positive energy and momentum.

I'm not arguing that patience isn't necessary, simply stating that, if losses begin to pile up over two and a half seasons, patience will be hard to find, regardless of the circumstances he was hired under.

That said, I'm behind JH. 100%.

And I was a HUGE advocate for JP up until midway through the season...when I began to hear some VERY discouraging news.

Danny White's reputation as an AD is unparalleled at this university. He has my 110% of my confidence. I think he'll take a very pragmatic approach to our football program, which bodes well for Heupel. And the fact that DW has now hired him twice only bolsters that belief.

I was in school in the Majors rebuild and there was no patience with us. We had several cheers to fire him and bring Doug Dickey back, etc. when the game would go south. 😅

I was meaning more the administrations.... fans are going to be pissed every game we lose..... I remember we had home made fire majors shirts made.... wore them on the road to a South Carolina game..... several fans took pictures with us and during the following week..... majors was fired and replaced with Fulmer.

TEHO. Exactly. That's why it's so annoying when people act like everyone should want to live at the beach or in a city. I don't. Glad most do. Although it's beginning to get alarming at the number moving here.
Not to mention the rolling brown/blackouts, hugh homeless encampments, crazy covid shutdowns and high state and local taxes. I am glad to be back in "God's Country" Tennessee.

Any good news today?

Other than someone saved 15% on their insurance by switching to GEICO?

There are some new wave ones with good apps, but you’ll quickly find yourself trading more than you should as a new investor. Here’s a good read about how these apps trick you into buying and selling and how they make money every time you do. 2021 Predictions & Person of the Year | No Mercy / No Malice

My advice would be to pick something you can throw money into and not worry about checking it every 20 minutes. Because there’s a reckoning coming in the market.
Agreed - absolutely no new users should be trading. Investing, yes of course. But day trading, in a market where now 90%+ of trades are done by algorithmic trading bots built by financial engineers, is dangerous.

Huge disadvantage for the common man.
Just invest for the long run and reap the benefits.

CJH maybe the guy that takes us to the top or he could fall on his face. My guess is he'll make us third in the east. Which is probably the most we can ask at this point. Maybe when that becomes not good enough we can attract an alpha that is willing to take on this challenge.

I bet by the time that happens James Franklin gets fired from Penn State. Campbell will either still be at ISU or moved on and is on the verge of failure. They'll be new hot names, presumably sure things. And the world will continue to turn on its axis.

Also, it'll be hard to attract a big g name coach because we have a toxic fan base and our roster is depleted.
