Why wouldn’t he be? He’s no longer the best QB coach in the conference. He can’t have pick of the litter at QB. You think JH’s offense would’ve been scared of that florida defense this year?
no. but flipping argument around. vice versa yea.

He would have picked it apart. If we can pass protect at all it could be a long day for them.

Exactly and those days are over. Recruiting and just college landscape in general are different. We are gonna be top 15 ish virtually every year with no where to go but Up.

Just from scheme alone as matchup better against Florida and Georgia than we ever did the last 3 years. They rely on pressing on the outside and their pass rush getting home. You can’t do that against this offense or you are going to get gashed. You have to sit back and be patient.

Florida's defense is very good, year in and out. always fast, and goodnin secondary.
Florida’s defense was worse than ours this past season in big part to mullens poor recruiting on that side of the ball..... sometimes he is able to supplement it with decent transfers but that defense is not like it use to be.

I don’t care so much about where we fall in the rankings because, like you, I think if we’re winning we’ll fall between 10-15.

I am concerned about how many elite prospects we sign in those classes. True difference makers at CB, DE, WR, etc. If Steele and Garner are here, we’ll get some of those guys. Otherwise I’m not sure.

Good article on 247 about heupel recruiting. UCF guys that covered him say he is actually a very good recruiter and has good classes. They said you can’t look at the ranking as 4-5 star kids are hesitant to come to group of 5 no matter who you are. If they get power 5 offer then it’s hard for them to pass up. They used a Brock Purdy as example. They said he was deep in that one. Thst was his guy and purdy couldn’t pass up the power 5 offer and has done very well at Iowa St. they talked about how he has never had a bad QB anywhere. Nobody was salivating over Bradford or Landry Jones in recruiting and he made them stars that went to NFL. They said Trevor Knight was all but a lock to TX AM but heupel got him to Oklahoma.

summary they said we shouldn’t worry about QB as he will set his sights on a guy and go get him but is also good at keeping a few guys in play if it falls through but whoever it is will be good based on his track record.

Also said he likes tall WRs that can get the 50/50 ball vertical. Hyatt and Wideman will like that

Tesla doesn’t make money from manufacturing and selling cars and never has. what they do is resell the regulatory credits they get to car companies that don’t make enough vehicles that hit emissions standards. It’s the only thing that has kept them barely making a profit but as other manufacturers are now making vehicles with less emissions that side of their business is about to squeezed and they may be looking at them going back to the days of zero profits. A Texas move makes sense from that standpoint for many reasons including cheaper labor and bigger tax breaks not income tax as much as relocation breaks and an overall cheaper workforce but Elon also has a pretender syndrome and is dying to be seen as Tony Stark.

A lot of his startup cash was gifted him by Cali investors and taxpayers but as other manufacturers need his services less it makes sense to try and make the car part of the business a success rather than an excuse to gather and sell credits.

An interesting article on how it worked: Tesla's dirty little secret: Its net profit doesn't come from selling cars - CNN

With the credit selling market drying up, it’s going to be interesting to see if they can survive. I love their design but that’s the main thing going for them.
All Elon has to do is sell his battery. That would immediately make revenue. No one has been able to match it.

There’s no way you can be a fan of anyone besides bama and not at least feel a little “uneasy” about JH being here.

- we haven’t had a QB in 4 years.... ✅ fixed that.
- we’ve had the worst scheme and OC in the SEC. ✅ fixed that.
- previous coaching staff played favorites and refused to play younger guys ✅ fixed that.
- we’ve had a toxic culture at least the last year +. ✅ fixed that.

As an opposing coach I’m looking at Tennessee with some serious caution right now. Why?

- we have two 5 ⭐️ QBs And a quality ACC QB waiting for JH in our QB room.
- we have quietly been putting WRs in the nfl for a couple years now... so it’s fair to say our WR room is going to be solid.
- we had a great pass blocking OL last year and return a bulk of that and will be switching to more a pass pro friendly OL blocking scheme / quick passing scheme so whatever edge rushers said opposing coach may feel good about... that are pretty much nullified before the ball is ever rolled out.
- mainly, this team is hungry and dying to buy into a coach and culture and teams that are bought in get confidence and better in a hurry.

I’m fully expecting us to go 6-6 or 7-5 but i GUARANTEE that we make at least one “big boy” (im calling Florida especially with our starting schedule and them playing bama before us) very uncomfortable when we play them. I promise you Mullen is looking very closely at our team especially with the offensive talent they are losing and their defense was already very suspect.

100%.

WRU is back. When we were WRU in CJM's tenure, we won games we were not supposed to win at times. That's what builds excitement and momentum. It led to more talented rosters over time. That led to the foundation being built to be an elite program in the 90's and early 2000's.

Need a solid D staff to contain and get some stops. It's been since Kiffin that I felt we had a punchers chance of turning this around. I know we do now. As I study CJH more, I see a driven leader who will compete to the death. I remember being so impressed of him at Okie as a player and it seems he still has that strong will to win in him now.

People do not place enough emphasis on the AD position. Without vision and strong leadership there with support from the system president and chancellor, there can be no long term sustained success. We don't like Bama's and OSU's domination through the years. Well, they have that commitment. Which is why even when they suffer an occasional bad coach or short down period they rise back up quickly. They systemize the success of the program by prioritizing its importance and committing the resources without anybody challenging it successfully. UT did the opposite after Dickey and Johnson retired. Let's see if we can regain and hold on to it this time.

Basilio Blog this morning from his “insider” guest columnist Orange Throat. Can any of our insiders confirm this dynamic on hiring Steele?

Insiders think Heupel would love to have Steele as his DC but White is stalling it. White and Auburn AD Greene are tight and Greene stopped Steele from getting the HC job there. UT would have to pay Auburn a reasonable amount for Steele to be DC but nowhere near the ridiculous $2.6 million per year.

The Tony Basilio Show

Hopefully Steele is the guy JH wants and this is just a negotiation with Auburn as to what his reasonable compensation as DC is to offset what Auburn is paying him.

This is dumb. We don’t have to pay him anything if he says he will do the job for a $1. They fired him and are stuck with the buyout. We are paying him over 400k, that is perfectly fine. We don’t need to pay more just to appease another AD. That’s ridiculous.

Steele would be a home run DC hire. He’d likely bring Garner with him. I don’t buy the whole ‘Steele the Usurper’ stuff very much. He probably lobbied for the Auburn job, and hoped he could interim his way into the UT job, but it’d be career suicide for him to be actively undermining his HC and looking to take his job. No matter where his next gig is he’ll do his job and he’ll do it well.

Just want a quality D staff. Period. Don't care if it is Steele or somebody else. Just no more internal politics and back room deals that undermine the program. Let's play Vol football again before I die. I'd rather talk schematics, player performances, play calling, winning/losing and such.
