Yes, that's the other side of it. If JH thought White's meddling was a problem, then you would think he would have turned it down or at least had that discussion.

I'm not sure it's that black and white. From what I read, White presented Shannon to Heupel and he approved it. It was just too good a scenario to pass up. Shannon was a guy with a great resume, with great Florida ties, and his son was a linebacker on UCF's team at the time the job opened.

So it doesn't read like White forced him on Heupel, more like they had a chance to get a great DC on paper and Heupel stamped his approval on it.

Wrong. He didn't do that out of some moral stonghold to extended justice to a friend that had been wronged. He did it, like he said in his press conference, because he thinks he will give them the best strength program in the NFL. He thinks he can help him win. End of story.

I think you misunderstood my point.

I'm not saying he hired him to prove a point or to help the guy out. The convenient position would be to hire the 2nd best candidate on your list and avoid the backlash. I can respect someone who makes the choice they think is best regardless of the public backlash, especially these days.

He hired Randy Shannon for Heupel. That's a fact.

I'm not saying we know for sure this is happening here - we don't know it to be true, but past evidence says it *could* be.

But here would be my retort to your statement that Heupel wouldn't take the job if it were true:
1) $4M goes a long way, and we gave him a very long deal.
2) He was one subpar season away from being on the hot seat at UCF - especially with a new AD in town.
3) It does not have to be contentious that the AD wants a say on the construction of the football staff.
