They might be over paying for Banks, but Martinez and Garner are very reasonable.
Whatever we're paying Martinez it's too much........I like all our hires except for WM.....I thought he was incompetent during his last stint at TN and I've seen nothing that would prove otherwise now; however, CJH and DW deserve the benefit of the doubt and maybe he will be a better coach than he was before......trying to keep an open mind

You also have to remember that (at this point), we just swapped head coach pay without paying a buyout. Maybe we end up paying Pruitt something. Banks is making $300k more than Ansley, but Golesh and Ellarbe combined are making Chaney’s salary. So, we are saving on Friend’s $800k salary. I think we got the great end of these swaps.

Maybe Butch was meddling there too.

Once a player enters the portal, the school has the right to pull his scholarship. If he returns from the portal and stays with his original team, the coach has the option to give him his scholarship back or give it to someone else. The deal with HT is that he's one year away from being eligible for the NFL draft and if he transfers to another P5 school, he will have to sit out unless the NCAA changes their transfer rule, which is under consideration. There is also the issue with the SEC rule that covers players transferring within the conference. Another obstacle he has to overcome. Saban is hoping the NCAA changes the transfer rule so HT can play at Bama this year. That's why HT is not at Bama right now.
TY!

What if we recruited this way.

"I might not be here in two years, but here are some pamphlets and a few pics of our facilities. If you want to know more ask some fans. Let us know when you want to sign."

It's silliness. There are no guarantees the coach will be there, but no one is picking a school because of the campus layout when they are going to be putting in 15 hour days with their team mates and the football staff.

And to act like the kids are supposed to have some "love" for the school after being on campus two times that rivals 40 years of fandom is literally a fairy tail for grown men.

Never said not to recruit them but telling them more about what they can do for the rest of their life instead of the next 4-5 years should be more of a priority. Less than 2% ever live that dream of the NFL....less than 2%. I would wager that fact is never brought up but a college education and a degree in a sought after market could mean a million or more dollars than someone that doesn't have a education over their lifetime.

Absolutely, if a coach sells the university most the kids do like Tyler Bray did. If you're selling the kids on purely yourself or staff then you're failing them. The kids should be sold on the university, because the time they spend here will be spent doing more non-football things than football related.
I'm way late on this conversation but here's what I don't get. I can understand these guys being passionate about wanting to play for Pruitt when he was DC and for the first couple of years with us, but WHAT were they seeing after this past year that made them want to play for him so badly?

What I would say it is idiotic is tying your future to ANY coach in this day and time.. The average coach tenure at a in P5 schools is less than 4 years so I would think the smart thing to do would be check out the school and not the coach. And remember all of your arguments about toxic environment, sanctions, friends leaving and the like were brought on BY THE COACH HE WANTED TO PLAY FOR.....so tell me how did that worked out. Maybe the school is what he should have looked at first.
Our university has absolutely nothing to do with the previous coaching staff.... we have been a mess for years....I would say in order of importance for a student athletes starts with the relationship with the coaches.... 2nd would be how they fit with the football program.... 3rd would be the college they choose to play for....... Most of these kids aren’t from Tennessee..... what do we have to sell that would entice star players t attend here?

Fulmer had no intention of firing JP, and Fulmer thought he was totally safe. There was no lie involved.

call it what you want and as I said it wasn’t an intentional lie I am sure but from the kids standpoint he was told something that ended up being far from the truth

I'm really excited about the offensive staff. I actually watched that press conference twice. I usually don't even watch. We have some really good skill players on offense so I am excited to see what CJH can do with them. (You know, the things I was expecting Chaney to do last year.) But now I am getting excited about this defensive staff also. If we can get a few transfers of our own, we could have a good team soon.... Not division contenders yet so don't think I am saying that.

I'm beginning to think that the long period of time used to assemble the Defensive Staff was by design. Seems like the plan has worked so far.

It’s worked out fine but make no mistake the DC hire wasn’t the top of the list.

WM and RG were going to be here with any of the other DCs we offered
