Right, but you're comparing Heupel to Pruitt. I don't think that strategy bears any fruit. You don't hire a coach to simply be better than the person he replaced. You hire him - especially at a place like Tennessee - to be good.

Pruitt was 16-19 through three years. I personally believe the 2021 roster is the worst we've had in a long time - both from a talent and scheme-fit perspective. If I am right, 4-5 wins seem most realistic.

If we only win 4 games this year, Heupel will have to go roughly .500 the next two years to match Pruitt's win total. Can he do it? I expect he can.

Will that be good enough to keep his job? That's where the doubt starts to creep in.
scorched Earth. no one can help that, all we can donis forge ahead.

Broad stereotype with some truth to it, from someone who has lived in Asia for 14 years

Chinese in Kenya for the Belt and Road initiative is a specific example of blatant racism, however, that's not true for all Asians and shouldn't be illustrated as such. That's why I'm not a fan of the broad brushed tribalism racism that our media and 'intellectual' elite try and push.

Certainly in the discussion. Either way, it's a bad group to be in.

I personally think I am being fairer to Heupel than others are given what I think about this roster. If he wins anything over 4 games, I will consider it a job well done. I think he has inherited just about the (realistic) worst case scenario given how he wants to run this team.

My fear is people expecting 6-7 wins will start killing him by November.
The Nobel Peace Prize search committee should broaden their range.

My grandpa's grandmother was pure blood Cherokee, so it's actually true for me.
Same exact family story...then my nephew up and got one of those genealogy DNA tests and announced he didn’t have one drop of Native American blood.

Damn shame he had to find out he was adopted this way.

With you. You know Heup can develop Qb's. You know he can coach high scoring offenses. We know UCF just put more players in the draft than Clemson. You know Garner gets dudes drafted all the time. But then you think, this is UT. He and Garner and all those guys will come here and forget how to coach.

I don't think it's fair to say that it got worse. I mean it did, but as you said, covid year doesn't count. It's been pointed out several times that they had 10 or more opt outs on that team and they lost some really close games with the exception of the BYU game where they got shellacked against the number 2 overall pick in the draft.

But they went undefeated in 2018. Going 10-3 is worse yes, but it's still 10-3. And his problem at UCF was not the offense. It was clearly the defense. He had a top 5 offense in the country his entire time there. The problem was his defense couldn't stop anybody. Now, the fair question is to ask, is that because of Randy Shannon, or is that because of Heupel's system being unfriendly to defenses. We better hope that it's the former because, if not, we may have a 2012 type team that can score on everyone but can't stop anyone either during Heup's time here.

Also, Scott frost didn't build that roster. He was doing the same thing there on offense in 2020 with his own recruits. His offense was actually better than Frost's ever was if I'm not mistaken, and he had Gabriel at QB and not Milton who is far better. Scott Frost didn't recruit any better at UCF than Heupel did. It isn't like Frost was bringing in studs and then Heup regressed in recruiting. That's a false narrative.

to tell a family secret, my grandmother was Dutch.
For being such a polite society, they were by far the worst of the Colonizers in how they viewed the indigenous people they colonized.
But the Dutch side of my family is super sweet. The Scottish side though...the toughest SOBs in Southern Tennessee/northern Alabama!

I was reading one of the letters my mom has from one of her ancestors who happened to be one of the 1st ministers to come over here to the "new world" just the other day. He was ordained by the King and writing to him going in great detail about their hardships with disease, lack of medicines and essential supplies, etc. Made me give pause and realize as crazy as this world has gone, we at least have it way better than the 1st settlers did in most aspects.
