Well thought out points there.

The #1 challenge we have is a culture of losing and cutting corners. We are getting rid of “me first” guys. Hopefully we replace them with leaders and then coach them up. If we break even the first two years while replacing the culture, we may be ready to take off by year 3.

While I agree with a lot here, Middleton and Emerson played a good bit, and could help this year. And Key Lawrence played more than you apparently think. He was a rising star according to many.

wasnt enamored with the type of offense we were running. people were correct, in regard to what we wanted to do on field, time was passing us by. However, Fulmer was an OC before he was a HC. We could absolutely given him more time to straighten it out.

Incorporating old school with new concepts like Satan does as well LSU has paid dividends.

I’m late to the game on this convo, but I think firing Fulmer was a bad move. Financially, it was stupid. From a perception standpoint, also awful. You can’t extend a guy’s contract, then fire him less than a year later, especially when he’s a legend.

Fulmer was probably done, but he had Tahj Boyd and Bryce Petty committed. He probably could have managed a few more 7-9 win seasons and a couple good recruiting classes to stabilize the program.

I think our next biggest mistake was hiring Dooley rather than tagging Kippy Brown as interim and then getting a guy who wasn’t awful as a HC.

not exactly the same but Bobby Bowden at FSU reminds me somewhat of our situation at that point

HC had clearly run out of steam but had incredible W/L ratio and legend there - would've continued to be successful and hit jackpot occassionally

i made the wrong decision and i'm sorry Volnation

in hindsight, we should've kept PF and weathered the storm of incredulous expectations and built up a better succession process

i'll do better moving forward in these decisions with you invaluable input here :p

Go Vols!

Maybe i didn’t explain myself. We could use these guys but they didn’t want to stick around. It doesn’t matter how much playing time they got last year. They didn’t want to be here. And per my other comment, it makes zero sense the DL didn’t want to play for one of the top 2-3 position coaches in the country. The only explanation is the culture is still toxic.

Emerson just ain't any good................

He calls WNML every day.
Somebody needs to teach him how to use the internet. A lot easier and faster to get info that way
I'm aware. My point was that this is likely his social interaction for the week. Who truly cares if he calls in, if anything I appreciate his positivity.

I do think he needs a new schtick other than 'Hai fellas.'

Hindsight being what it is, I think I’d rather have ridden with Fulmer a few more apathetic years and let Clawson work. I don’t know this but I think Kiffin would have been okay for a few years. He may have kept Georgia from growing into what they are now. He probably was a pretty good hire, but him showing no respect for our traditions and leaving like that really Dooley’d us. PF had to go, we got extremely lucky in ‘07 to go to Atlanta…. We were murdered by Bama and Florida The writing was on the wall… Saban and Meyer were taking over the conference. Not sure any hire we made would have made a lick of difference as far as our pecking order. At best it would have kept us firmly above Kentucky Mizzou and SCar.
Clawson wasn’t going to be retained. He had stopped calling plays halfway through the season.

He started 2 years ago and did well. Then he and everyone else regressed under the Brumbaugh/Pruitt coaching tandem.

I have full faith in Garner to develop whoever wants to get better. He wasn’t happy with the way the DL played in the spring. But we will need some young guys to step up.

That's the core of the class and pretty much guarantees top 25. Land a few more like a Caden Curry, and we're top 20 for sure. Judging from what's being said about them and the offers they have, I'd expect squirrel and Phillips to get a bump which would raise our class up higher. Also, Venson Sneed is already a 4 star on Rivals, if 247 follows suit, that's another that will rise on the composite. This class is going to be okay. It will be much better if we have a decent year and score a lot of points.

Having a little fun with the class calculator, and granted this is before any updates (either rising or falling) to player ratings, I have added the following players to our class: the four mentioned above, plus Andre Stewart, Caden Curry, Joshua Josephs, Quentel Jones, Kaydin Pope, Jourdan Thomas, and Kalib Perry. That puts us at 20 commits in this class for a score of 221.44 which would have been the 20th ranked class last season. That's with 5 spots remaining, and none of those players with the exception of perhaps Curry, are a reach. but we have a legit shot at him. Now, how do they use those spots? For recruits or for the portal? No one knows, but I'd take a 20th ranked class this year with everything going on around the program. It's a start, and I'd expect they'd improve on that next year and get us inside the top 15 at least.

Nichols is a monster piece for this class!

. I think all of us would be ecstatic with that class. It’s going to be interesting to see how teams save spots for the transfer portal now.
