I don't see why people think the NIL will be bad for us? We have one of the largest most passionate fanbases in the country. We are top 5 on all social media platforms. And we haven't even won anything. NIL will be a huge advantage for us if they do it right.I’m sorry @Bassmaster_Vol but I sort of disagree, although I’m with you in spirit, I just see an irreconcilably incomparable landscape of football now compared to Clemson’s rise. I was indifferent before the NIL, but now that that’s in effect and now conference realignment, I’m even more certain of our perpetual mediocrity. It’s really hard to see a path forward for Tennessee.
They are really an ignorant fanbase. They don't know much about football. They've only been following it for about 5 years now. They are going to be turned upside down when Malzahn tanks down there.CuznGreazey posted on here how happy UCF fans were to be rid of him citing one of the reasons as he doesn’t incorporate the TE in the passing game. A film study guy I follow disagrees with that assessment but if you passed first grade math? Heupel’s TE’s totaled 44 receptions the last 3 seasons. Malzahn’s…32.

The point is, Miami and FSU were on top and Clemson was in the tank. That obviously flipped. Right now Bama and GA are on top. But Saban will retire; Ga will also take a step back, and we will rise back up again. It's inevitable. We live only in the moment, but if you look over the history of college football, this has always been the case. It is definitely harder in the SEC though than in the ACC which is why I want our schedule to be as easy as possible until we get built back up. It's absolutely foolish to want to play a murderers row with where we are right now.
What is the end game to this moneygrab? Surely people don't think it's a competitive advantage...since everyone is getting it. We just need more and more money to throw at buyouts? It sure hasn't led to more wins.It would be a disaster for our rebuild to add Oklahoma and Texas, but it will make the conference and the university a lot of money so we’ll go along.
I agree with all you said . We never needed money from the conference but we sure had reasons to use it . If we we're lucky enough to have hired a really good coach we would be battling bama ever year for the sec .What is the end game to this moneygrab? The SEC becoming popular and flooded with money is the worst thing to ever happen to a team like UT. We never needed that help. It's only making it relatively harder. I'm against all this. Screw the SEC. Let's go make $30mm less and win 10 games a year in the ACC. Just win. After all - is it about winning games and enjoying watching or it it about mOnEy?
Just want to put this out there for the "TN will never be good again" crowd.
Clemson's last national title was in 1981 before Dabo won it in 2015. Clemson's last conference championship was in 1991 before Dabo won it in 2011. Things change.
During that time period when Clemson wasn't winning titles, Miami and FSU were dominant. Now where are FSU and Miami? Both are absolutely terrible and Clemson is on top of the ACC and one of the top 3 teams in America. This is what happens. Programs rise and fall. The same will happen for us. One day Saban will retire, and when he does, Bama will take a step back making our schedule easier. When bama takes a step back, another program in the west will likely rise like an LSU or an AU. When that happens, our rivals' schedule will get tougher.
GA is not always going to recruit like they are. If Kirby doesn't win it all this year that fanbase is dumb enough that they're going to want to push him out too. When they do, GA will likely take a major step back.
We will be on top again. We have more tradition and more championships that Clemson does. If they can come back, so can we. But it is certainly a more difficult road in the SEC.
