I feel much better about this if it is delayed until 2026. That gives us plenty of time to rebuild and means that Saban is likely gone from Bama by then.
I would not bet on:

1) Saban retiring by 2026
2) This taking until 2026. It sounds like OU and Texas could settle in court with the BIG 12 and start playing in the SEC by 2022.

It's official. I am old. I miss the bowls and school spirit and hope that different teams would have great seasons. ESPN seemed to have ruined it all by just focusing on a few teams and declaring everyone else irrelevant. Then we needed a playoff to decide the NC. That has not only made most teams irrelevant but meaningless. So now we need super conferences which will just continue the cycle. Soon there will be 20 teams that get to play competitive games.
Their power play goes waaaaay back to the Heistman fiasco between Manning and Woodson. ESPN was knee deep in promoting Woodson for the Heistman.

And what exactly is changing at UT so much that makes you believe we will make the correct hire if JH isn’t the guy? We got lucky that we had years of stability and moved from one UT coach to another. We have screwed up every hire since. I love competition, but when you are down in the dirt and clawing your way up, you don’t want to put boulders in the way.
Kind of a chicken or the egg conversation here. Do we keep hiring bad coaches because our program isn't perceived as positively outside of Knoxville as it is inside, or is it perceived that way because we keep hiring bad coaches?

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

I think people view us the same way we view Nebraska or Michigan. It doesn't mean they're right.

We've got to do something to break that perception - and that's harder when you've got 5 auto losses on your schedule every season.

Supreme Economic Conference…still the SEC
The two SECs are starting to look alot alike.

People freaking out about TX/Ok make no sense.

One it wouldn’t be until 2025 so plenty of time to get back up to speed.

TX been on struggle bus just like us. OK isn’t some unbeatable powerhouse. TX doesn’t recruit much in our areas and more of an issue for AM. It probably will affect Bama and LSU ability of poking TX stars away. So you in theory you ding Bama/LSU/AM somewhat. OK would be one that would make recruiting tougher with their attempts at getting into Nashville(npa cough)and GA for recruits.

Everyone gets a tough schedule and if anything ours might be easier some years.

Point being a team like TN with its brand can still thrive in any situation with the right coaching and administration. A team like Vandy, Mizzu, Arky should seriously consider other options but doubt they turn down this money.

A lot more kids will pick Texas if they’re in the SEC
