Wife hates Mississippi from her trips with my stepdaughter for softball tournaments. She loved Norman.
I think it was just the "no mountains" part that got me the most. Roads are all straight, no curves, everything looks the same. People were cool. I didn't go to a bigger city either. Did go to Medicine Park, that was pretty cool.

They should just drop the SEC brand if they let these teams in. It no longer has anything to do with a geographical region.
The more I think, the more I think this conference model is f*****. No pro sports do stupid stuff like this where divisions go rogue and do what they want to the point of complete and utter imbalance in the sport. They try to keeps things balanced and equitable for the good of the game.

Maybe just do away with conferences. Each team plays 8-9 teams out of the 20-30 nearest them and let it rotate each year.

The SEC is ruining CFB with this dumb shiz. It's all about themselves.

From a friend:

"My contacts at Vanderbilt tell me emotions are mixed and their vote is up for grabs. 11 SEC teams have to agree. Texas A&M is opposed. Suggestions are A&M leaked the details in order to build support against the move since it was being done behind close doors without much opposition. Debate within Vanderbilt is if we stay in the SEC we have to commit more than the $300 million commitment recently made or start talking to the ACC. If the answer is to recommit, many are pushing for a billion dollar influx to signal to other SEC teams we aren't going to be your automatic door mat in all sports, except baseball, golf, lacrosse, bowling, and tennis. There is talk of expanding the sports we participate in as well.
Interesting times . . . "

Also mentioned rumor the SEC might balloon into ~30 teams and leave the ACC and Big10 to fight to be the last conference alive (because let's face it - the Pac12 and Big12 are dead).

I’ve been in Texas longer than any other stop in my life. Helps with the “no mountains” part. 😏

I am actually excited for OU and Texas to join. Can’t wait to go see the Vols play in Austin. Looking forward to getting to go back to Norman.

The goal is to be back competitive with Florida, UGa, and Bama. If we’re at that level, OU and Texas won’t be an issue.
It surprises me that most people aren’t for it, it will make for some great games

Let's put this in simple terms with 1 assumption - we are more-or-less where we are right now in 2025...minus the penalties and whatnot...but let's say we are 6-6/7-5 type of team.

Now imagine the future and think how many conference titles you seriously think we'd win by 2050...in the next 25 years. A mathematically "average team" would only win it 1.5 times...though we know about half, if not a third, of all teams will likely win them all.

SEC: just beat...Bama, OU, Texas, UGA, UF, LSU, Auburn, TAMU...I could see us winning the SEC maybe once and I'm not even sure about that. Even during our best stretch in half a century, we won it twice out of 15 years. Now we've added 4 more teams, 2 of them reguarly recruiting better than us and most other teams are better than they were in the 90s due to all this "SEC!" garbage.

ACC...beat Clemson, FSU, Miami...VT? UNC? I could see 6-8 conference titles...about 30% of the time.

B1G...beat OSU, Michigan, Penn St, Wisky...I could see us winning it 5-6 times...about 20-25% of the time.

Jmo but it sucks to think we are building ourselves such a large mountain to get over that we may only see our Vols win our own conference once every 20 years or so. That looks bleak for older folks and even middle aged people...might not see another flag. Why do we do this to ourselves? 😑

It's kinda funny to listen to the Pro 'Horns media starting to understand the great advantages they can use because they are now going to be sitting at the cool kids table.
Their eyes are lighting up.

When 6 SEC teams will be getting in the playoffs regularly, that's something to hope for. I definitely think we can get to that level in the foreseeable future.
While I agree 6 of them could be the best nationwide...the pollsters and voters constantly look at W/L much more than insane SoS. Regional folks also want regional/non southeast teams to be included.

They're also going to pull this card - "well x team has already lost to 2 or 3 games to other playoff teams...why have them play again? Let's put in 10-2 UNC...at least they haven't lost multiple playoff teams already (while playing 1 ranked team all year) 😑.

Instead of being happy to have the opportunity to play the best regularly, some of you would rather play Slippery Rock for a flag football championship. Since the top division of CFB is now NFL lite, I want to see good football and my favorite team competing at its highest level. Sort of like the Titans have done in recent years. Build it up to compete against the best with your own identity. Then go make the playoffs and see what happens.
You seem to be assuming that playing with the highest level will automatically result in competitive games for your favorite team. Playing in the the toughest conference the last 20 years has resulting in us falling behind by losing a lot of those competitive games and being drilled by the best teams. So how does adding even more teams that can drill us make us competitive? It could make us another Vanderbilt.

Vandy should leave the SEC no matter what happens with OU and Texas. It's not a good fit for them and last year made it even more obvious. It would be more fair to their football athletes to play at a lower level of competition. The SEC should grant them a free exit pass, no questions asked.
