IIRC Butch had a 3 strikes rule. He had gotten suspended twice that season/offseason already, and failed a drug test at the hospital. At the time I remember it being weed (or at least the first two suspensions) but it could have been PEDs. He was battling some injuries at the time I think. Shoulder maybe?Too many failed drug tests, so the story went. 3...it was reported.
Always thought it was odd that it happened right after he had a concussion and had to be carted off vs TAMU.
Either way, seemed like a shizzy time to cut a guy for a silly reason.
98, you say?

Here's a few examples of doing things the right way... Teach instead of scream. Win a starting position based on being the best player. Build a team that works together instead of a bunch of individual players that show off their skill. We've been doing things the wrong way which led to not being able to compete with teams that had way less talent than us.I want to be doing the things that get us competing with Bama, Georgia, Florida, Clemson, Ohio State, and Oklahoma. Idk what that entails, but “doing things the right way” is a meaningless platitude to me.
Oh, I'm talking about coaching the players. You're talking about getting the players.I’ve been saying it since we fired Pruitt and all the “win/do things the right way” talk started with Donde at the pressers. I don’t think you win in the SEC doing things the “right way”, unless the “right way” is simply putting on the “right” face, saying the “right” things, and then when the doors close doing what needs to be done.
Honestly, DCJW. If Heupel is winning 3 games in year 3 (especially in a normal season with 3-4 cupcakes) he will be gone just like Pruitt. Regardless of “doing it the right way.”
I was at the game….. stayed past the end…… sang with the players…… danced out of the stadium singing Rocky Top and “It’s great to be a Tennessee Volunteer.”my roomate and I were headed back to the car to beat traffic, saw cops high fiving and heard the booms.
sidenote: always wish Billy Ratliff had been able to play in NFL.
