I disagree with this assessment….. the most popular guy on a roster is always the back up QB….. very rarely is there a guy that struggles in practice but dominates in the games….. Typically they are QBs such as Dobbs who is unable to show how good is bc he is unable to be tackled so he wasn’t able to show off his best attribute as a QB…..All of our qbs had their moments…. Even JG but they also had some really bad moments as well which would have been exploited more often the more they played…… The number one failing as a coach is being able to recruit/develop a qb…. I feel Hype is like Cut and will always be good at the qb position no matter who we have at qb bc they know how to run that position. This ^^^
The QB position is the most important on the field. He's an extension of the HC while reading what he sees, securing the ball, and getting it in the right hands - in a few seconds on every play. If you don't have a QB that can do that on the field you don't stand a chance of winning.
So any HC who is overly loyal to one QB over competence turns the team into a loser. Any AD who allows his HC to do that tanks the program.
Pruitt failed to find a QB either through transfer portal or high school for two years (outside of HB recruiting class) that was better than JG in his own mind…not sure why he couldn’t find anyone better. He knew what he had and failed to bring in better talent and Im choosing the word failed loosely because it honestly seemed like he didn’t care about offense.Yep. Pruitt was a horrible coach, but he might still be here had he just made a change at QB during the KY game and stuck with it. Continually going back to JG turned the fans against him in a way that he could not recover from.
Frost is going to do the same thing with Martinez. He's going to let Martinez take him down and bury him
Tee Hodge is like many who left-- they don't like it when others invest more effort and take their spot. Let's see if UK takes him because of Randall Cobb and the satisfaction of "stealing" a player away from UT. UK actively tries to poach UT players and recruits using Tennessee in-state players who're at UK, and they do it in multiple sports-- men's and women's. Most of these UK players were overlooked or not highly recruited by UT in the first place, but occasionally they get a good one. Hodge just kept falling down the depth chart.

We were so woefully undercoached last year it still hits me at random times. And then I just redneck mad for no reason. It’s amazing when you look at that coaching staff. How did they suck so bad? Then you realize you win in the trenches and it’s all about the QB. And they (the OL coach, lack of DL coach, and Stinky Weinke) were our weakest links for sure. How would we have won with Shrout or Bailey last year in those same circumstances?
I think Nebraska needs to continue with Frost. Let the man get a different QB. Unless he’s lost the team or something. You can’t do anything in CFB with a terrible QB.
Our staff definitely didn’t do a good job coaching our team last year….. that’s what gives me even more hope this season. We were so woefully undercoached last year it still hits me at random times. Not worth getting into a coaching search debate again, we’re four days from kickoff.
I would just say I don’t think Heupel’s prior experience in the SEC is what got him this job. Comfortability with the AD pushed him over the line.
Lol what??? He lost to a team in Y4 that has gone 12-21 the previous 3 years and Illinois was playing this QB:

Sitkowski has been way worse than Martinez. Yet his team still won the game.
The notion that Pruitt would still be the coach if he changed QB’s is also wrong…Pruitt failed in finding any (good)transfers to challenge JG during his three years knowing full well what he had when he walked into the job, also the offensive system was trash and had no identity other than having to complete way too many 3rd and longs. How would we have won with Shrout or Bailey last year in those same circumstances?
Resume is there for sure. When it came down to Sonny Dykes, Josh Heupel, or restarting the search, it’s very easy to see why we made the decision we did.I think he was also the best available.
Not sure any high profile guys were interested, in the circumstances.
I think we did well to get him. I was thinking we were going to be forced to hire the wide receivers coach from Alcorn State.
Yep….. I agree with thisThe notion that Pruitt would still be the coach if he changed QB’s is also wrong…Pruitt failed in finding any (good)transfers to challenge JG during his three years knowing full well what he had when he walked into the job, also the offensive system was trash and had no identity other than having to complete way too many 3rd and longs.
I think most coaches feel that they have to win now…. From all reports…. JG was head and shoulders above the rest…. I would have given up on him after Kentucky but if the others were sporadic as reported….. I can understand the hesitation.I agree, the point is how dumb coaches are for riding with a terrible QB vs trying to make a change or playing for the future.
