And from my understanding, Jalen asked to either get a lead blocker or switch to TE for his health. Butch showed that lead blocker against Northwestern and it kept him from transferring, then we never saw it again. When Butch wouldn't let him switch positions after the concussions mid-season (because he wanted him to batter his way to the record) he left.

Pretty sure Jalen is a Vol at heart and didn't want to leave but Butch was Butch. I wouldn't trade a lifetime of pain and debilitating injury playing in a scheme that doesn't fit me for that dude just to finish as a Vol.

This is all true, and I still can't help but dislike Hurd. One of the biggest douchebags I've ever met. AK on the other hand was always a nice, humble guy.

Now, let’s be fair. Many have already forgotten he was the only media member in Knoxville to first break the news about Pruitt and the internal investigation. We found out about the Thanksgiving raid on the coaches offices shortly after. He also was the only member of the media that told us Pruitt was gone no matter what while the rest were hemming and hawing. I’ll take that with the recruiting or hiring speculation misses.

I forgot that as well. He was the first one to even be open to the possibility that Pruitt could be canned when others were spewing that he was coming back no matter what. It definitely shows you the polarity in sources though. Unless you got info from someone that was pushing him out you were lead to believe that there was no chance of him being fired.

Smarter coaches do smarter things. I agree Kamara should have gotten more touches. He wasn't used properly and neither was Hurd. You all blindly act as if Hurd isn't talented. He also just made an NFL roster. And to be honest it is disrespectful as hell for so called Vol fans to sh1t on what he did here. How would you like to used as a freaking battering ram constantly ? The fact he lasted 2 and 1/2 years is kinda impressive and ole Butch is a big part of the reason he switched positions. He had to from a health standpoint. Again big picture. If you also look at only college you will also see Kamara turned the ball over. Definitely more than Hurd. That may or may not have been part of the reason Kamara didn't get more carries.
I've never said he wasn't talented. But I am honest about what he was/was not great at. He's a good college back but nothing special when compared against several rbs we've had in the past. People are trying to build him up as a once in a generation type back because of what he did in his first 2 seasons. But it's largely due to 1 reason. He was given more carries than anyone but Arian Foster.

I'd bet no other rb in Tennessee history was given 467 carries in his 1st 2 seasons. Possibly any 2 seasons in their career. Maybe Jay Graham his last 2 years. Many of our rbs don't get that in a career.

I once freed a black bear trapped in a dumpster. Took me a while to figure out what the racket was. Opened the dumpster hatch from the side and the bear popped out like a Jack in the Box and then ambled off stopping briefly to cast one glance back at me over its shoulder.

For the most part, black bears are very docile animals. They are good natured and generally don't mind humans unless there's a mama bear+cub situation. It's other bears like Grizzlies that you have to worry about.

I’ve not seen one poster utter that “once in a generation” strawman. There’s a happy medium where we can recognize his accomplishments. He logged some hefty yardage behind mostly crappy OL’s in an even crappier offensive scheme that was only offset by a special talent in Dobbs and a good playcaller in DeBord. He burnt some bridges with his attitude and I’m not interested in rebuilding them…even tho it’s understandable why that tude took a beating like his body did in that scheme.

Uh , then again maybe it was because he was within a few hundred yards of the all time UT rushing record?

Hurd was close to that because freshmen weren't allowed to play for most of CFB history and because for much of our history we had such a ridiculous stable of RBs that they only got one season of shared snaps before going pro -- 2 at most.

I'm not the one arguing for cannibalism. Bear meat however is very tasty.
I’ll take your word for it. Surprised someone hasn’t bagged one on that show Alone. A good strategy for one of the contestants (if they could accomplish it armed with only a quiver) would be to kill one and render the fat for lard. Then you could easily make the 100 days.

Hurd played a lot of good football for UT. Gained a lot of yards. Paid a price. I am not going to split hairs.

Killing a bear on that show would basically guarantee victory. One guy tried but missed that I saw in one season. Even the guy who killed the Moose, he won the show, but nearly didn't make it because there isn't enough fat in moose meat so he nearly starved to death. Pretty crazy.

agreed those were some absolutely terrible OLines.

I'll root for a meteor instead. I won't root for Clemson because I feel that they've had the benefit of stepping into the vacuum Tennessee created (along with Miami/FSU in conference). They're success is as bad for us as any one in the conference due to the fact our recruiting areas overlap so much. Too many of their players should have been wearing the correct Orange and White.

It's time to fix that, but I see them as a hurdle we'll have to clear, just like Florida/UGA/Bama. We talk about needing the SEC teams to take a step back for UT to accelerate their climb, but Clemson needs to come back down to earth a little as well. So for me, it's not the worst thing in the world if UGA blasts Clemson this weekend. Clemson will be hardly challenged this season, while UGA still has the rigors of an SEC schedule in front of them and the fact they tend to lose one they shouldn't (S.Carolina).
I'd rather GA fall to Clemson then 1 or more SEC teams. We need to worry about our division before the SEC or playoffs. There are plenty of great football players in GA that we can get. Of course, I am not going to cry about a Clemson loss though.
