Absurd might be a little strong, but I agree WE NEED A COMMIT!!!!!!!!
I have been HOPING for a while that this extended pause was a calculated strategy for several POSSIBLE reasons...
1 With limited ships to give out wanted to get as high up the board as possible and season trajectory impacts that.
2 Did not want to push early and get guys committed that would not hang tough if some games went the other way and have fleeing rats syndrome all over the boards and TV.
3 Trying to work the big board, narrowing real interest, until we actually gain bowl eligibility, and maybe even get a boost from COTH potential for our coach. This would fit with some crystal balls but not commits till after this week if we gain that status.
4 Pushing for best candidates starting now and utilizing the projected additional win next week to build momentum along with some better bowl talk if it all falls in place..
5 Would not want to take guys down the board earlier and have any negative press associated with running them off during an otherwise stronger closing period leading into both signing days.
6 Being able to calculate THE best mix between highest attainable HS kids and the ever expanding portal opportunities this time of year.
Bet the board in the war room has been changing dynamically while we have all been worrying about the lack of accepted commitments. No way of knowing if any of this is true or not and if what we have done for whatever reason was the best risk/reward path. Probably will be some head scratchers as they make their plans based on potential and FIT. With where we are and where we are headed with the NCAA thing still hanging over our head, minimizing misses on this group before and after they get here is really important. Normal yield rates will slow down growth and momentum. Hope they are either lucky or good for sure.
