Dang! Remingtons are usually reliable. I've got an older Remington 742 carbine in 30-06. It's solid as a rock. I hardly ever hunt with it anymore though. I bought a browning A-bolt in 7mm mag in stainless. I got tired of hunting in the rain and having to oil it down every 30 min.

I'm starting to switch to hunting with my AR. I have a legal SBR lower which makes it perfectly fine to put other short barrel uppers on it. I have a 556 upper with an 8" barrel and a 300B/O with a 7.5" barrel. Makes for a very compact rifle. The 300B/O is ballistically similar to a 30/30 so it's good on deer up to about 100 yards. I'm thinking about building a 6.8spc short barrel upper. It's a great deer round up to 2-300 yards. I also have a suppressor that will work for all three calibers. It adds about 8" of length to the gun though.
Yeah I might need to upgrade but I get cold feet when I think about buying another gun and paying hundreds of dollars

Probably some decent deals at pawn shops or gun shows. I got my son a decent savage bolt in .243 for about $400 with a scope. Also should be some deals at bass pro and academy right now. Academy had a killer deal on some spypoint cams the other day. Wife said why did you buy that with Christmas in a month? I said the deal wouldn't have lasted and I needed them now.

Am I the only one using mobile and occasionally a new page will freeze halfway through loading and you’ll have to close the browser to refresh it? It just starting happening a few days ago.

Don't know what type AR he has, but my SIL got a buck with it on opening day down in Monroe County. It's compact like you describe. About an hour after he set up about 100 yards from his truck the buck came out of a thicket into the open about 40-50 yards away. He even recovered the bullet.

ARs are the most versatile rifle. You can do so much with them. "No one needs an AR" is bull imo.
