Agreed. I have my concerns whether Heupel is going to recruit at the highest level, but I am very happy with what he has done thus far.

Now, I don't know the odds of Heupel being pulled away, but in that scenario, I would take coach "K" over most any coach out there, including Freeze, by a mile.
Slurp...slurp...slurp..

Calling my shot.

OU waits on Rhule & Stoops keeps waters calm until NFL season ends and they can announce it.
I’m thinking they may not have been caught off guard with him leaving. They may have known he was talking with other schools since they immediately had Stoops ready to come in as interim. Which means they were already considering who they might want and could possibly already have been talking to them.

At this point OU would be smart to talk Stoops into coaching for the next year and use that time to evaluate and find the best coach. If they move like we did after Kiffin left and rush to hire whoever they can, then chances are they gonna be in the same situation we’ve been in for the last decade. This year was already a rough year for a coaching search with no real strong candidates, then being late to the party all they can hope for at this point is Luke Fickel. Other than those they are settling for 6-6/8-4 level coaches
I'd rather them hire someone now and not give Huepel another year to prove himself a worthy candidate.

The main difference is that Kiffin left us high and dry in January and him and Special Ed tried to take all their recruits with them. Taking a year to evaluate also still does not guarantee they get who they want.

I’m aware of his resume, just didn’t know if it included the Sooners. Not scoffing at your guess…makes legit sense.

Mostly him already having recruiting roots in that area & conference is why I am speculating. The fact Bob is already acting as interim also has me wondering if they plan to wait on a hire.

Unfortunately, perception is reality. The quicker they’re able to quash it, the better.
Is there a signing day that is taking place before Oklahoma hires their coach? Why is everyone concerned about perception of JH to Oklahoma right now. Let's be honest, it's more for us as fans to feel better about it. A statement from UT changes absolutely zero signatures from recruits right now. Unless you think Oklahoma drags their feet forever making this hire. Which at that point, then you make a statement. But right now it's a non-issue.

It's enough to give most schools pause-- $8 mil if he leaves before the end of next season (12/15/22). IIRC, it drops by $2 million annually for the next few years, locking him in pretty good for 3-4 seasons.
What was Kiffins buyout when he left?

Wasn’t it something stupid because of the Hamilton contract?

A statement costs nothing. Even if the only benefit is to make your fanbase feel better, you only gain from it.
