I wouldn't apply it to one position group. I would equate it to doing the same thing Texas is reportedly doing, with Peyton as the face of it. Who better to rally Vol contributors than Peyton? But maybe also get other former players involved, like Kamara? And like I said, Peyton has done an incredible job marketing himself, maybe that could help our players.

But it would all hinge on his willingness to do it.
We absolutely 100% HAVE to have a Mal Moore.

The perception that programs like Bama and UGA are ahead of us is because they already had systems in place to collect and distribute booster/bagmen dollars. And central figure(s) in place to keep the boosters content and moving in the same direction. As evidenced by our last 15ish years, we've never had a Mal Moore that told everyone to shut the hell up, get on board, and get the money moving.

Peyton Manning needs to start us up a NIL fund. He markets himself well, just think what he could do for our athletes.
Could he interview players on his Monday night telecast? Prime-time live TV if you play at UT. It would be funny to watch him battle Eli for prospects.

EA interviewed coach this morning. Here's what he had to say.

He didn’t answer the direct confirmation question with a direct answer here. I’m more concerned now than I was before I listened. My heart wants to love this guy - my head says “he may be no different than Kiffin - put that wall back up!”

A. They’re all lying mercenaries. Even the “good ones” shouldn’t be trusted any further than you could throw them.

B. Heupel requested the interview with Ainge, if that helps assuage your angst a little bit.

Not sure why we as fans can’t handle NIL and stop worrying about the big companies and donors. They are coming soon. Don’t worry. It’s pretty simple, create a fund for team NIL funds to be dispersed to each player each year.

If 200,000 fans gave $100 a year to the fund (pretty low and easy). That would be $20,000,000 per year to disburse among the 85 scholarship players. That would be $235k per scholarship player at UT every single year.

Then your best players can get the mega deals from big donors and companies for over a million a year. I am not sure how to set this up or if it needs to be done by the University, but I would gladly put in $1,000 today to start the fund and get it going.

Agreed. If Peyton sent out the call to contribute, we could raise at least $10,000,000. If that round directly leads to success in recruiting and we see that we can do more, more and more people will contribute, and regular contributors will pay more.

Honestly I think boosters are stupid for how they are using the NIL.

What the NIL should allow is for players to brand themselves, something they all need to learn anyway. It should be an opportunity for players (especially highly rated/known names) to figure out how to create a brand around their name. Something NFL players do to grow their wealth.

A NIL should be "I'm the starting QB at Tennessee and I'd like to work with XYZ company to help use my name and likeness to promote your company."

The REALLY smart players should be using this to create a brand for themselves, partner with a company (design/clothing/etc.) that they are already passionate about and then use that to build the foundation for an organization/company that can continue past their playing days.

Great example of this... Daniel Hood, had the NIL existed when he was a player he could have partnered with a roofing/handyman company that already existed and he could have been using his Name/Likeness to help that company generate business. Receiving a % for the new contracts generated from the deal, then when he graduates he could roll right into owning the company...similar to what he's doing now only he probably could have built his client base more (with less work) had he been able to promote it while at UT and being a more known player.

My 2 cents at least, like a guy like Alontae he should have looked into getting rights to own a franchise for the cookie spot he was partnered with rather than helping a location he doesn't have ownership in.

Couldn't the university just take that $100 off the yearly donations required to be season ticket holders? Ya might actually increase the amount of season ticket holders as well if they know a portion of the donation will be directly going to the athletes and not the university.

I respectfully disagree across all of your points. While I agree that our diehards are older now, and sexier programs have emerged to capture the attention of Millennials and Gen Z, the path to success and big money is still there. VolTwitter is a thing for a reason, and those people aren't 40 and 50 year olds.

We have 30,000 students, 24,000 of them are undergrad, and the amount is growing every year.
The population of the state continues to grow. Nashville particularly, but the East TN region is booming. People support winners and they love the buzz of a winning program. They'll buy up tickets, go to watch parties, and support the program again if it's successful.

This fanbase is starving for a winner, and eager to support the program again. The state and region is prime for a new generation of sidewalk fans. The youngsters want to jump on board as well. If you build it they will come.
I feel like both sides of this conversation are mostly true lol

Cool story bro time.

Saw him a few times at the Mt. Juliet Planet Fitness this past summer working out and headed to the tanning bed. Looked exactly the same as he always does…complete with sunglasses on inside. Pretty sure he wears his sunglasses at night.

Yes, generic payments from an endowment is short sighted from player standpoint.

I could do $100.

Guys I am not making a connection on THANOS. I know how dangerous it is asking this LOL

Congrats on not being a nerd like the rest of us!

Thanos is the main villain in the Avengers (Marvel) movies. He’s big, purple and very powerful. Dude literally took out half of the planet’s human population with a snap of a finger.

Do yourself a favor and skip to the part where Ainge tells Patrick Brown that Heupel ASKED for the interview, and then you'll feel better.
