Exactly, just look at A&M’s class right now. You think 5 star WR’s are committing there because they’ll get thrown a lot of balls and get developed for the NFL in Jimbo’s 1985 offense?
2022 1 5*, 1 4*, 2021 1 4*, 2020 1 5*, 1 4*, 2019 2 4*….. I don’t see much of a difference in past years.

What I think we’re missing with the NIL deals is that they can be a huge benefit for the juniors who may have a mid-round draft grade. Would entice some to stay for that extra year and improve their stock while making good money at the same time. I believe that’s where the local businesses would buy into the NIL deals. Those players would be a known commodity that would benefit their businesses as opposed to freshman who may or may not pan out in the long run.
Don’t get me wrong, there still has to be NIL deals for the incoming freshman, but those deals are more likely to come from big money boosters rather than the local places who don’t have the capital to throw at 17-18 year olds.

That makes sense why ADs think that way, but it is also such small-minded thinking. The objective of the administration should be to grow the entire pie, not believe it to be a finite pie and change how it gets divvied up.

NIL opportunities = you bring in better recruits = you win more games = ultimately more money for the university as a whole.
I don't think DW is an idiot, he will figure it out and how to buy us a few elite players to get us to the point we can really compete with the upper echelon, but I don't think it looks likely to happen this year, but if a couple of big name transfers sign with us, then that means we figured it out.

Reading between the lines in @butchna posts...we've got outbid for Gibbs and a few others. I know some will not believe that unless somebody shows them a receipt, but I don't have to see the wind to know it blows.

Welcome to West World.

The second half of your post is lost on many business men. Sometimes you gotta spend money to make money
I think you hit on another issue though...there are not a lot of actual businesspeople in athletic departments in university administrations. Randy Boyd is one, but most of these people are bureaucrats and administrators.

I just came here to say something. With Napier at Florida… I fully expect us to have that feather under heupels cap next year. I know they are our kryptonite, but I’m look at them as a big win for us next year. My only disclaimer is this will depend on our recruiting/transfer portal grabs. But if we shore up some defense issues and keep or gain playmakers. Florida is going to get smacked next year.
IMO
The first half last year showed we’re not intimidated anymore and won’t play scared
We did lose but we did t get crushed right out of the gate and played tough

Imo, the NIL is just going to be used as a way to funnel money to recruits. Bama, OSU, UGA will have their boosters create deals through companies and that way they can't really get caught cheating

That's pretty much its purpose. They are making official and regulating what is already known across the board.

Cash-For-Players
Cars-For-Players
Suits(lol)-For-Players
Jobs for family member(s) in/around the program or college town.

These have all been utilized going back to at least the 70's. Now instead of it being under the table and unregulated, everyone can talk about it.

Will it be perfect? No. Will there still be under the table stuff going on? Yeah, probably.

But it fixes more (longstanding) problems than it creates, and it pushes the sport(s) forward more than it sets them back.

For a program like Tennessee, it should/could be monumental and a great equalizer. Like everyone else has said, we better get our ducks in a row and quit looking around to see what everyone else is doing.

Money builds the best facilities.
Money buys the best coaches.
Money buys the best recruits (now officially as well).
The best coaches, players, and resources win big.
Winning big brings more money.

I know that our fans already spend money in droves. We fill the stadium, we buy anything orange, we support the players and coaches. I remember in the 90's/00's we were REALLY spending money. The ingredients are there to be successful and build a system that can prop the program back up, strengthen the program, and solidify success. We can't be the only ones that see this. God I hope we aren't.

I don't watch Knoxville television. Do local businesses ordinarily use celebrity spokespersons for their advertising up there? In Nashville, all that oxygen is eaten up by Titans, Predators, and country music stars. Even then, I don't see much of it here. Usually, the local businesses here use an owner or family member for their advertising.

Yes. I think having Boyd around helps more than people realize. He wants TN to be good because he stands to profit a lot from projects he has in and around Knoxville. It's worth his time to try to fix things because there could be millions at stake for him.

Hello ladies and gentlemen of VN,
I am coming to you from the past with an important message that can save your future!

On Monday 11/29 , I started feeling pretty bad, body aches, fever, cough, headache, shortness of breath, chills, and just felt rotten. 🤒 Tested negative for Covid that night. Made an appointment with my PCP for the next day. Again tested negative for Covid. But tested positive for influenza A. (Yes, I got the vaccine)
Received a Rx for Xofluza (new single dose anti-flu medication) within 12 hours felt 75% better. Note that it significantly shortens the course of the infection, but you are still contagious to others for another 5-7 days. 😷

The posts here in the past are too good to skip pages now…I will endeavor to get caught up by Saturday. 😂
Glad you are feeling better and thanks for the info!! God Bless!!
