He could be the guy there and win National Championships. That is incentive enough.I don't think anyone believes he would "ride the bench", but I think that with Bama being loaded with quality RBs he will not get what he thinks he will get. The consensus is that he would be THE guy here and would rack up insane stats in this offense.
I see NIL being a lot like internet advertising. At first, all the big brands will spend like crazy, but then the ROI reality will set in. Or, as others have pointed out, they will throw money around at these high school kids only to see them sit on the bench for a year.
What will end up happening is a market correction. Businesses will start to step back and be more conservative. They will invest more modestly and also will likely hold back and invest more in "established" players.
Of course this won't happen 100%. There will always be the fanatical boosters that will throw money at recruits, but that was happening anyways.
Think about the NFL. Most players have small deals with local businesses, but only established stars end up with big endorsements. The market will sort all of this out.
I think the way Texas (and most big schools will follow suit), is the best way. It will allow all players to get some financial incentives for common activities such as autograph signings, appearances, etc. I suspect that the schools will closely manage these endowments just like all other endowments and they will become normal SOP. All universities have endowments and know how to use them. Yes, the bigger schools have bigger endowments, but that has always been the case, but it is not always the case. There are a number of smaller schools that have quite significant benefactors. So I think there will be some surprises in this space.
Yeah definitely seems there were a lot of assumptions on Kelly's part. I just remember the one assistant saying he was visiting a recruit when the news broke and he didn't have any idea.Maybe a lot of assumptions? He was prepared to make Freeman and Rees the highest paid coordinators in college football. Most likely didn’t anticipate that ND would hamstring that by hiring Freeman. Same with the S&C. Boils down to his old school having relative continuity and Kelly treading water at a new destination with a current staff fully aware that he plans to replace them.
I'd love for him to show up at UF and do the same thing... i.e. take them to the 80s consistently in recruiting.Yeah, I'm still just not sure about Napier....he did good at Louisiana, but it's not a hard place to have success.
He basically took a team that had success previously and went from a 105+ recruiting class to getting them into that 80s range on the regular. But Florida being what they are has always had high ranked recruiting classes, so he really can't improve the roster from where it's been. So is he a good enough Xs & Os guy or can he develop the talent he'll have there?
I wish I was in the know on that. Sounds like maybe Bass should weigh in. What I’ve hinted at is portal related. If even part of what I’m told occurs, the recruits sign up. Herd theory.@butchna so is the big news that we're about to have a bunch of recruits on campus this weekend, announce the solid commits, use that momentum to hopefully get some silents to announce as well, and try to swing some other big dogs that are on campus?
we talking like 3+ commits this weekend, possibly 5+ a big name?
