Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

From Tony Basilio's Wednesday blog:
Tennessee Football Is Nervous About Tim Banks & Penn State: We can confirm through sources that Banks and Penn State have talked. It appeared that Penn State was going to hire Ok State DC Jim Knowles until Ohio State jumped into the equation and, as was told to me by an industry source, 'punted them.' Now James Franklin is circling back to Tim Banks who was on his Penn State staff from 2016 until joining Tennessee last December.

Banks has been busy the past couple of weeks on the recruiting trail for the Vols. Plus he also had a zoom interview for the Duke head coaching opening as well as visiting with James Franklin for a few conversations. It goes without saying that Tennessee would hate to lose Banks after only one season. Firstly he did a very nice job as a collaborative coordinator for Tennessee's surprisingly effective defense. Plus he's involved with several prospects over the next couple of cycles.

I guess I have to start sleeping with my cup on!
everyone is replaceable. too many colleges, not enough coaches.

Im watching the Billy Napier press conference.

I feel like he says all the right things. But he comes across like such a small town guy. Just feels like a weird fit at Florida. I think he might have killed it at Mississippi State or something like that. But i have a feeling the Florida spotlight and criticism is gonna crush him eventually. He's such a good ol boy. But the state of Florida isn't like the rest of the south. I dont know that they will find him charming or endearing unless he wins quickly.

Listening to him talk, he seems likeable enough. But im not sure he's the right hire at the right time for Florida at all. That could just be the homer in me talking. We shall see won't we.

On par with my theory that ADs hire different personalities not different coaches. Lol

It’s very obvious that they’re buying these players somehow. If I were to guess, I’d say it’s more than legal NIL deals. They didn’t do anything this season to warrant such an uptick in their recruiting all of a sudden

Would you prefer these players go to bama, uga or florda?
Of the options, I much prefer A&M. I have lots of friends who are Aggies. It only helps us if they keep highly rated players away from the evil trinity.

If you look at A&M's schedule this season, it was absolutely pathetic. Their cross-division games this year were Mizzou and South Carolina.

Their "success" in recruiting (success in buying) this year makes me so mad I could punch Jimbo in the face. I'd say the NCAA needs to shine a spotlight on them, but they wouldn't do anything. I think all those SMU boosters from the '80's must have moved over to TAMU.

So Eric Dickerson was given a maroon trans am by A&M. He then flipped over to SMU. Pissed off the A&M boosters, but what could they do? Pretend that they didn’t know where the car came from.
If you don’t think that texas boosters and Aggie boosters weren’t major players in the SMU death penalty debacle, then I would like to talk to you about a great investment opportunity. Bring your friends…😎

Saw a quote on Twitter that the first heisman winner Bryce Young remembers watching is RG3 in 2011.

Now think about how bad we’ve been since 2011 and it really put into perspective for me how difficult it must be recruiting right now.

Kids just don’t see our program like we do.

Very true.

"NCAA was so mad at ___, they gave SMU the death penalty". Such a classic.
But it was SMU. Only not for cheating, just for doing it better.

Wasn’t supposed to be, but is anyone really shocked?
And Cade is also right. OL can be marketable also.
Of course I agree with you, everyone should have seen this coming...it was obviously too easy to twist into pay for play, and I've been saying that since this was first brought up. And yes Cade is perfectly right about that.

This. I thought he would be a great fit in Blacksburg, but I think he made a mistake going to Florida.

yet all the four and five stars are still committed to thosw wretched places
That’s not true…. Florida is ranked 40 and losing guys left and right…. Clemson is still doing good but not as good as in the past…. We will see if losing these coaches will have an effect on their class soon.
