Lol, I’m gonna revive an oldie but goodie here:

Thoughts on Simone Biles getting Time magazines “Athlete of the Year” precisely because she did pullout of her events in the Olympics.

For me, I never question what she had to do as an individual, but a) that doesn’t make her a hero, she’s just a person and people all have issues they must deal with and b) this is some sanctimonious crap from a media source. You’re telling me there’s not ONE athlete that deserves this award for an actual ATHLETIC feat?

I agree, but it’s Time magazine, one of the most name recognized news sources in this country and a source that still presents credibility to a large percent of the American people.

I agree, but it’s Time magazine, one of the most name recognized news sources in this country and a source that still presents credibility to a large percent of the American people.

I know it use to be, but I feel bad for anyone who thinks Time magazine is a credible news source (I am not saying you do). I also do not say that as a slight to anyone. I understand it can be hard to determine which media outlets are biased sometimes. It is just a shame what Time magazine did to their name.

She did still compete in the Olympics and won 2 medals though. Her pulling out of the team finals is probably why the US was still able to medal, her trying to compete would have tanked their scores.

'Bout as good as they could have possibly done. If Lea was still at ND, he would have perhaps been considered for the HC job once Kelly left.

That is such a hard job. It seems like you need an extremely charismatic, dynamic personality to do well there and create enthusiasm and momentum, because they have absolutely none organically. It's really, really difficult to convince people to care and get excited about something, especially if they are really bad at it to begin with.

For me, yeah I would have picked someone else. They didn't ask me to weigh-in though.

But I was just pointing out Simone didn't pullout and not compete completely (which is unfortunately one narrative that got pushed). "She quit on her team and the US!!!" I mean it's unfortunate, and it was blown up into a seasonalized storyline by both sides of the line. What she was experiencing was labelled as a mental health thing when it's a common occurrence in gymnastics. She knew if she continued to compete at best she'd score badly which would drag the team scores down, and at worst she could have seriously injured herself.
