Yeah, it sucks that we keep finding ways to beat ourselves. But what would really help UT is to finish 3rd in the SECE. So I'd give up a close Pitt L with key starters out to beat SCAR, Vandy, UK and/or Mizzou to get back in the Top 3 in the East with UGA and UF. That would help with recruiting, which needs a boost. If we're playing the long game, playing it right means winning in the SEC.

Tough to lose a game honoring Majors, though. Helluva guy. Wish UT could've won it in tribute.
I think losing a game like this in Heupel’s first year is very similar to Majors’ early years, but patience led to some great years!

Here is the deal with Bailey - the coaches just don’t think his skill set is a good match for this offense. The Briles-based offense that Heupel runs is predicated upon spreading out the defense and trying to get a numbers advantage in the running game. The QB being a part of that running game is an essential part of their scheme, and HB doesn’t give them that.

That doesn’t mean HB is a bad QB and wouldn’t excel in a more pocket-passer system. He might even be the best QB we have if they tweak some things and play to his strengths. It just means they are trying to give the other two QB’s who (theoretically) fit their existing system better every chance to win the job.
So the 3-5 plays our QB ran was the game changer? Have HB keep it a few times. He doesn’t have to be RG3.

I think people holding out for Bailey are hoping we have a game changer at QB just waiting in the wings. I wish that was true but it isn't. He did fine last season but he didn't flash game changer. He wasn't a Newton, Tebow, or Burrow or even JFF who could compensate for weaknesses on the team. Maybe he'll get there -- Burrow was nothing special for ages. But he's not there yet.

I don’t blame the coaching staff. A few odd calls but the players had some dumb penalties and I think CJH could have thrown for more yards In his Johnny Majors sports coat.

Yeah I think coaches look at a place knowing the fans are unreasonable and think, can I win there pretty quickly and keep them happy?

They then read about how many players we lost, that we have 70 scholarship players; there is an NCAA investigation and we’ve sucked for 10+ years, we play Bama every year when Georgia and Florida don’t, and all of this is on top of unreasonable fans. They answer that question: NO!

That’s all I’m saying.

We’ve lived that NO answer multiple times these past few searches. I’m not suggesting anything that isn’t plainly obvious.

Those coaches better steer clear of the SEC then, because if any other program in the conference outside of SCAR, Vandy, and the Mississippi schools had to endure what we’ve endured, they’d have burned the whole campus down already.

Went to the game. Honestly embarrassing. 70000 max was attendance. Upper deck was empty. No reason to go to game in the future. 30+ ministers for concessions. Waste of time and money.

It looked more than that on TV. Upper decks were clear but the stadium looked well attended.

In the right offense, sure he could be ok, but I dont think he fits what we wanna do. Like I said earlier, we saw this offense with a QB like Bailey in Worley.
Lock was not a fantastic running QB. Gabriel either. HB can extend plays enough to make plays. Neither QB1 or 2 has shown to be “the” guy. I’d like to see what HB does when the lights are on. He doesn’t have to be all world. He just has to execute whatever the call is. When we have executed the offense we’ve scored with ease.

Here’s some numbers for you..

Milton and Hooker were sacked 5 times who are a lot more mobile than Bailey.. don’t insult everyone’s intelligence saying Bailey is mobile enough, he’s not…

Without Milton’s and Hooker’s rushing numbers, Small had 18 yards on 8 carries and Wright had 15 on 11 carries.. for a grand total of 33 freaking yards.. that’s with a true dual threat handing them the ball.. you think HB helps those numbers?
If HB can hit the deep ball? Absolutely. Would open everything else up.

I vote we take 2nd quarters out of the game. Kind of like the 13th floor.

So we're Dooley's Bray team? Amazing offense in the first half that sputters in the 2nd? I saw a team with less talent but more fight than that. That game should've gone to OT.

HB does fine at practice. They all have issues they're working on and need to be more consistent.
He should play. It’s easy to see. Program and fans need hope. He provides it. Willing to go through growing oains with him.

Lock could move well and had a Milton esque arm with more accuracy. Gabriel, you have to look at the level of competition.

Typical 21st century Tennessee football: every time we get opportunities that might fast track the rebuild, we $&¡7 the bed.

We should have been up 21-0 in the first quarter and then cruised to a victory.

We let them back in.

Milton on his long scramble should have scored - we ended up shooting ourselves in the foot and kicking a FG.

We could have ended it early and they would have just given up.
Lots of mistakes, but, again, they are fixable.

The problem isn’t effort or even game plan really….it’s execution and that can be fixed.
