I agree, some people like me predicted we might not easily beat Pitt or some others on our schedule, and we see that Pitt was no pushover. Sure we beat ourselves more than they beat us, but that's what happens when you have no depth, new system, etc...TN lost by 7 to a good team with an experienced QB while having several starters out in game 2 of a year 1 coach and that means Tn football is dead. Got it.
Imagine being in the stands at UGA when Jennings caught that pass and then someone in a hooded robe leans over and whispers “In the next five years, this program will appear in one bowl game and have three head coaches.”

Only thing that concerns me is THAT Heupel doesn't seem to be adjusting to what Milton is capable of. That was Butchs downfall too, you can't just call plays like the strengths and weaknesses of players executing them don't matter.
But this is what a rebuild looks like. Show a few flashes to give recruits hope and come out and give more hope and show improvement in year 2. Of we look worse next year, then I'll be starting to question Heupel.
Also doesn’t help that the sport itself is headed in a bad direction. I was a *little* excited to start the season but I was the least excited I’ve ever been. I expected disaster.I just want to win games. Anyone with a pulse that cares about the future of Tenn football is welcome at this point. I used to plan my fall Saturdays around Tenn football, follow recruiting everyday, check every practice report, buy preseason magazines at the store, buy merchandise. Now, I don’t even feel anything after losses and Tenn football barely registered in my head this summer.
I just want to be excited again.
It feels weird to be one of the optimistic people here, but I just don't think we looked that bad. Got a lot of dumb penalties to clean up and gotta protect the ball better.
Offensive play calling was strong, imo (I wasn't crazy about the 4th and 1 call, but it may have been different if we didn't have a bust in protection). We were scheming guys wide open with creative play designs.
Defense played very solid in the run game. We lack the ability to get pressure with front 4 and that killed us against a very capable veteran qb. But our defense and play calling was aggressive. Dudes flying around and tackling well (other than a couple of drives when the defense was gassed).
Kick coverage was a very solid unit. Very pleased with the field position advantage that gave us in spots.
And last but not least, the effort was there for the entire game. I didn't see anyone doggin it on any plays. It was balls out every snap the whole game from what I could tell. That kind of effort will pay off in the future.
In summary, I know it is frustrating to watch more losses in games that were winnable, but I think if we're patient with Heupel, we will be rewarded with teams that are fun to watch, easy to cheer for, and are capable of competing in the SEC. I really believe he will be able to do it given enough time to rebuild.
@SmokinBob . She just won't shut up about who our QB should be.Who is the annoying drunk poster today?

I wouldn't go that far, but cutting penalties down to single digits shouldn't be hard, so that alone should help a lot.I’ve been a bit surprised at the the reaction to this game in here. But I also thought Pitt was a bad matchup for us, so I guess I was surprised that we had to give them the game over and over again just to lose by a score.
I’m strangely more optimistic tonight than I was after the BG game.
