It feels weird to be one of the optimistic people here, but I just don't think we looked that bad. Got a lot of dumb penalties to clean up and gotta protect the ball better.
Offensive play calling was strong, imo (I wasn't crazy about the 4th and 1 call, but it may have been different if we didn't have a bust in protection). We were scheming guys wide open with creative play designs.
Defense played very solid in the run game. We lack the ability to get pressure with front 4 and that killed us against a very capable veteran qb. But our defense and play calling was aggressive. Dudes flying around and tackling well (other than a couple of drives when the defense was gassed).
Kick coverage was a very solid unit. Very pleased with the field position advantage that gave us in spots.
And last but not least, the effort was there for the entire game. I didn't see anyone doggin it on any plays. It was balls out every snap the whole game from what I could tell. That kind of effort will pay off in the future.
In summary, I know it is frustrating to watch more losses in games that were winnable, but I think if we're patient with Heupel, we will be rewarded with teams that are fun to watch, easy to cheer for, and are capable of competing in the SEC. I really believe he will be able to do it given enough time to rebuild.
