Kentucky went 5-3 and we went 4-4.

We got Ole Miss for our rotating SECW, and Bama
They got Miss State & LSU

The only "flip" game was they beat Florida and we lost to Florida. Both beat Missouri, Vandy, and USC. Then we won the head to head.

They are in year 9 for Stoops and we were in year 1 for Heupel who also lost 30+ scholarship players.

I mean (this is total on roster, not scholarship players) for how young the team is we really overachieved this year. With better officiating we're a 9 win team. Roughly 60% of the team were underclassmen this year.

Fr: 24
R-Fr: 15
So: 12
R-So: 19
Jr: 9
R-Jr: 9
Sr: 14
R-Sr: 15
I like this. I like that the majority are young guns. And now we will add some experienced talent to fill some holes. Encouraging.

So what your saying is I'm really in a no win situation. If I go against the grain and he's fired or moves on, the it was an easy call and I wasn't really going out on a limb, however if he does improve the defense and sticks around then I was just wrong.

Many coaches last more than a couple of years. I don't think he'll make it beyond next season. It may be of his own choosing, though. May realize he's not cut out for this DC job. If he does make it, he'll have to really expand his repertoire.
No, all I am really trying to say is it is too soon to make a decision especially with talent available. Anything right now is just a guess. But you are on record, and I will try to remember who said it. But I am old with too much going on so you’ll probably have to remind me.

Okay. Let’s **** talk then while we look up at them in the standings.

I bet Kentucky loves all those championship trophies they have in the case from finishing higher than UT in the standings...

I get the point, but it also doesn't mean anything. 0 SECE titles, 0 trips to Atlanta, 0 CFP appearances so yay on winning 10 games twice with cupcake scheduling and lucky breaks against the Gators not taking you serious.

Sadly, I think this is the case for most DCs given the tempo we run. And on the tempo, if we don't see a faking injury rule change in the off season, I think CJH will have to reel that back a bit.

I hate Kentucky. I’m just not in denial over what stoops has built.

Two ten win season in the past four years is nothing to sneeze at. Again - when is the last time we’ve done that? Two wins vs Florida the past four years. When is the last time we’ve done that.

And don’t look now but they’re out recruiting us as well.

Trust me - I detest Kentucky. Which is why I’m so frustrated. But Tennessee fans sound dumb trying to dump on them right now.
They’re a good example of a program that’s been built for sustainable success. We beat them this year, but we’re still behind them as a program. It’s no absolute that we’ll beat them next year. It’ll probably be a toss up.

Also, we play in an historic stadium named after one of the greatest football coaches of all time, and they play in a glorified produce stand.

So the question for me is who all is coming back (specifically of the seniors that can return cause of the COVID season).

I'll hold off predictions until knowing that and knowing how we finish with this year's recruiting class.
I’m waiting until we have all transfers in and out after fall camp.

Ten wins isn't 10 wins when comparing teams with different schedules. I would rather have a solid team that could beat a tougher opponent than a team that beat weak opponents and has a glass jaw.

It might look better on paper, but it just hides the true power of the team. That's why we beat UK, but have a worse record. Iowa shouldn't even look at the top20 out of the corner of their eye.

I mean, is it? Ten wins is ten wins. They beat Florida for the second time in 4 years. They beat LSU. They beat the #15 team in the country today.

IDK maybe smoke and mirrors but damn I’d kill for a smoke and mirrors ten win season.
KY has now beaten 2 teams with a winning record. The other was Chattanooga. They are 1-4 against power 5 programs with winning records

we 'struggled' against the 6 teams who had veteran players and depth. I mean if you think about, Matthew Butler played 80+ snaps a game. Think about that.

How can you expect a defense to hold these offenses, esp well coached like Saban's, Kiff's, and Brohm's to any sort of in check? You cant blitz, QB sees it all day. Line cant get a push. If you do blitz or play zone, they throw over middle and you get torched.

So im not sure why people demonize Banks. The guy is a helluva coordinator. Granted we stunk it up against Purdue, they did hold to three FG's and had two INT's.

Because it’s easy to just pick on Banks. First time as a full time DC. There were some on here that didn’t even give him a chance regardless. It’s sad. Banks was left with jack squat and look what he did with it. I think Banks did a good job. Could we have been better? Of course. But given what he was dealt? I think Banks did a good job.

Against Perdue, if the offense would have done it’s job in the second quarter, the defense issue likely wouldn’t have come up. I think there is a contingent of fans that don’t want to give this staff a chance. They want them to fail so they can say “same old TN different year, administration isn’t focused on winning, blah, blah, blah.”
