Question for anyone who is good at player evaluation.
Does Squirrel our WR recruit have the type of breakaway speed we've seen from a few of those Bama receivers? The kind of speed that given just a sliver of light they are gone?
Seems Bama has at least one every year, would really like to have one here..
* Refresh our iconic stadium with a fan focus
* Update and modernize our athletic facilities (the plans look really good if you have not seen the fly through)
* Recruit the right type of players to build a winning culture (which happens to be Top 15!)
* Keep a coaching staff focused on said player development
* Support the top 4 rated AD in the country
65 pass attempts in a game might be a little tough
Eason isn’t playing LB. He’s a DE.LB room right now without moving anyone around and with incoming freshmen.
OLB/DL
Byron Young - 6'3" 235
Tyler Baron - 6'5" 260
Roman Harrison - 6'2" 240
James Pearce - 6'5" 220
Joshua Josephs - 6'3" 215
ILB
Juwan Mitchell - 6'1" 226
Kwauze Garland - 6'1" 220
William Mohan - 6'1" 210
Bryson Eason - 6'3" 290
Aaron Beasley - 6'1" 225
Jeremy Banks - 6'1" 224
Solon Page III - 6'2" 223
Aaron Willis - 6'1" 225
Elijah Herring - 6'3" 230
Kalib Perry - 6'4" 215
Incoming guys all have great size and speed, I really like what we got here. Think Pearce/Josephs both can have early impacts and by year 3 I think Herring or Perry both could be big time contributors. Our success IMO with this group next season comes down to how good are Willis, Mohan, Eason (should be able to RS this year). Mitchell/Page both were seniors but I think both can return.
Yes, this. Pretty much all of this. Teams that run themselves like this will be stuck in a huge transfer loop every year. I think us easing into it will bode well for us in the long run. I think Heup's team culture is very good and we've had relatively few transfers because of it.Re: TAM shelling out major $ to the ‘22 class…
I have always wondered what that creates as far as the locker room dynamic for the team as a whole.
If I’m 3* LB from two classes ago who has worked his ass off grinding in the program for a couple years to get a chance to play and never got anything other than the scholarship, is there resentment to these new highly-paid and unproven “kids”?
Is there pressure from a coach to play these kids who have arrived on campus with a million bucks in their pocket and expectations of immediate contribution?
What about the other 50-60 players on the team who are not super compensated? Do they keep exerting themselves fully to achieve team results?
I see this whole scenario as teeming with opportunities for chaos and division within a team. I don’t care how many super 5*s you have on a team, if they’re not pulling in the same direction, you’re not going to win week in and week out in an unforgiving environment like the SEC.
* I could be absolutely wrong on this assessment. Just thinking about the whole NIL scenario that everyone is salivating and fretting about from the dynamic of how it affects teenagers/young men personally, and on a team level.
I don’t believe that. Michigan made a playoff doing a lot of the same things. Oklahoma is a big heavy personnel package team thats had a lot of success. Bama vs cinci was featuring 2 TEs. Football is cyclical. The thing about those kind of dinosaur offenses, they only work in today’s game if you can out-talent your opponents across the board.
Eason isn’t playing LB. He’s a DE.
I agree with everything you said, and I also believe that it will work out as well. Those elite guys that do hit are a dime a dozen, getting large amounts on campus is the best way to find them. Those who dont will still be servicable players. I agree about the farm team stuff as well. Plowmans press conference concerned me, and LA basically confirmed what I already knew, TN doesnt give two ***** about winning anything important. As a fan it may be time to take a step back, if the school doesnt care why should we?
I just had this conversation with someone today. Teams adjusted to the spread by recruiting smaller and quicker ok defenses and now offenses are going bigger again. There's no perfect answer just what are you willing to give up.I don’t believe that. Michigan made a playoff doing a lot of the same things. This I won't argue with. There's not a lot the AA can do about boosters, but if a school directly gets caught that's another issueThe complete flipside of this is - the university has zero control over private NiL deals. It has been and will be up to the boosters. If we ever get some that are wanting to win big (and maybe a 9-10 win season will jumpstart that) then the tide could change.
To act like there aren't GOOD, grounded kids in the top 100 is pure BS. So, we can definitely fulfill our culture prerequisite while getting top talent.
It still comes back to boosters - not just the university.
That’s right. If you watch Oklahoma vs Florida bowl game from a couple years ago that’s a perfect example. They gashed Florida with their counter run scheme using big bodies.I just had this conversation with someone today.
