Jmo it would be one thing if he was retelling a story or in a situation where using the word made sense for adding context or repeating what was said by another. But the fact he so loosely used the word...coincidentally around friends...idk. May be nothing, but I don't keep much trust in folks that have a drink and suddenly want to blurt out something like that. He sure wasn't using the word in a positive light. Feels like to me it is that person's true thoughts escaping.

Depends where you go. On the South Island It's very wild. Some areas the "trails" aren't really marked. You just have to get a map and hike through the "bush" to whatever your destination is. There's "cabins" in the middle of the wilderness for shelter. This is less so on the North Island. I'd recommend Tongariro (Mt. Doom from LOTR) on the North Island. There are shuttles that will take you to a trailhead and pick you up on a different trailhead at the end of the day. If you don't make it, they'll pick you up the next morning. Franz Josef Glacier on the South Island is a good one. Not strenuous or bushy. Just a hike up the valley. I carved "VOLS" into the wood on the viewing platform there.

Edit: I am not one to vandalize. It was one of those places where they let people do that for funsies. The platform has probably been replaced since then though.
