The chiefs did really need a guard…. A lot of times that is not the case….. a UDFA is no where near the same as a PWO…. Every team signs 10 or so UDFA after the draft and every year….. my favorite team(Steelers) cut a 6th or 7th round pick while keeping an UDFA….Once you get past the 5th round…. It’s sort of like the 2nd round of the NBA draft…. It doesn’t mean a whole lot….. One of the greatest linebackers in Steelers history…… James Harrison was an UDFA….. The draft originally was 12 rounds and they changed it to 8 bc the players won the right to free agency and was lowered again to 7 the following….. This change was created bc teams could build through free agency and didn’t have to rely solely on the draft.
I’m aware of the history of the draft and the process of signing UDFA’s. It’s always been better to have DRAFTED status whilst fighting for a roster spot. It’s a helluva tiebreaker if all things are equal. Your BEST teams have always built the majority of their roster through the draft and finalized pieces through free agency. And UDFA’s are the PWO’s of the professional ranks. You get to choose from the teams courting you but the odds are stacked against. Examples: Adam Thiel and Cooper Kupp are similar players with similar career arcs. Thiel was an UDFA who had to win a spot in a tryout camp…one spot! He has a less than stellar camp and another player (who was more ballyhooed) gets his opportunity and we may never hear from him. Kupp was a third rounder and would’ve needed a personal disaster to NOT get an opportunity. It’s just better.

Everybody has people. There are people around the programs and people around players. Staff isn’t permitted to talk to players at other schools until the player has entered his name into the transfer portal but a school’s “people” can talk to the player’s “people” and well that gets things going.

When Turrentine’s thread was bumped Sunday night, he wasn’t yet in the transfer portal but apparently we had people who knew he was a target for us. When I listened to the Gopher podcast on Irving 2 or 3 days ago their 247 writer said that “feelers” had gone out to Irving about a possible NIL deal before he entered the portal.

To me it’s a bit funny that every year it seems we have a number of coaches whose names pop up in coaching searches yet a lot of people seem to think that the only reason is the coach is trying to leverage the situation to get something more from his present contract. Like father like son. jmo.

ESPN reported that Narduzzi called Riley at USC multiple times Friday to express his displeasure regarding what I’m calling the Addison affair. According to Pitt fans they’re also expecting one of their DL starters and one of their starting Safeties to hit the portal before the deadline, both NIL related.

I listened to an NIL lawyer yesterday that said the new “wild, wild, west” of NIL and transfer portal is likely to go on for several years before there’s any appetite for regulatory action by presumably congress. It’s a matter of letting things take their course. There’s a lot of innovation that will pop up and no one wants to stop that. The motivation behind any regulation is thought to be based on trying to ensure players are not being exploited. There doesn’t appear to be any interest in protecting schools, coaches, or the “game”.

Right now we’re in a paradigm shift and our side seems to be on point. Our name was mentioned in the Addison sweepstakes along with USC, Alabama, Texas, and others. As far as players are concerned I think that can only help us. We’ll see. It was reported that Irving has already visited USC. Maybe we had the better offer. I mean I don’t know other than what I read or hear.

I read a lot of fan sites (I’m retired and I love college football so it gives me something to do). Fans everywhere, seemingly a huge majority, are complaining about the transfer portal and name image and likeness. Many want it stopped and stopped right now. Somebody has to do something. lol

Some coaches are complaining too. I’m not sure that’s going to change anything. Coaches have benefited the most from the previous paradigm, at least financially. Not many people really are feeling all that sorry for them.

Indications are right now, at least it’s my sense, that we’re in the game, big time. jmo.
Adapt or die.

47, holy cow. How often do you get checked? Thank you for the encouraging words.

I go once a year. I see them myself usually. My dermatologist will just call in the medicine…I only get them biopsied if the Aldara doesn’t destroy them or if they look different. I switched dermatologists , mu previous one wanted to biopsy each one and then burn them off. She gets paid per biopsy and burn separately. I asked that she not cauterize them as the scar was way worse that way. She got really upset. That’s when I realized that she was just doing all the biopsies and cauterizing because of the money. She also didn’t like me because I wasn’t interested in botox, juvederm, or any of the fake stay young stuff…she really was all about the money. Didn’t like it when I said that I would rather be wrinkled than be a manikin with botox. (I guess that still pisses me off 😎)

Feeling good about the offense. Feeling optimistic about the defense but seems like we could use some depth. A couple key injuries on defense could derail our season.
A lot of teams are in that spot. Takes years of success to climb out of that tho.

Replacing Theo is going to be tough. He was so good in the screen game and perimeter runs.
