Working on his game in all areas - from sliding so he takes less hits - to moving defenses with his eyes. If you are looking for the Vols' frontman, start in the Neyland Thompson Sports Complex where he spends most of his time.

Hooker said he spends “hours” in the building either doing physical work or film work.

“Approach the game from a mental standpoint as a player coach kind of thing on the field being in total control of the offense and just being efficient,” Hooker said.

Hooker believes that efficiency starts pre-snap.

“That’s something I’ve been trying to implement into my game transitioning from last year to this year," Hooker said. "Just studying defenses. Studying how they are thinking and their responsibilities helps me in trying to manipulate them or move them out of spaces so I can hit guys running through windows or sitting in windows.”

According to quarterbacks coach Joey Halzle, the progress in understanding defenses is normal from year one to year two in learning Josh Heupel’s fast pace offense.

“Last year in year one, it’s a lot about how do I call a play, where do my eyes go,” Halzle said. “Now he’s grown to the next step of seeing the second and third reads. Also, he’s able to play games with the defense knowing where he wants to go with the ball, knowing what the defensive structure is, their rules are and how to manipulate that and get the results he wants. He’s really grown this off-season in defensive understanding.”

Growth in the second year of a system is typical, which is why Hooker is getting national off-season love. Growth in the second year for quarterbacks has been a staple under Josh Heupel.

In 13 games in 2019, Central Florida quarterback Dillon Gabriel completed 59% of his passes for 3,653 yards, 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions. In 2020, Gabriel had 3,570 yards 32 touchdowns and 4 interceptions completing 60% of his passes in just 10 games. So in 2019, Gabriel averaged 281 yards passing a game. In year two in the system, Gabriel’s average jumped to 357 yards a game.

When Heupel made his first tour through the SEC as the offensive coordinator at Missouri, his quarterback was Drew Lock. In 2016 with Lock at the controls for his first year, he threw for 3,399 yards, 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. In 2017, Lock threw for 3,964 yards 44 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Returning a productive quarterback always creates hype for a team in the off-season. That’s definitely the case with the Vols and Hendon Hooker. History also says that Hooker will take a really nice step forward from year one to year two managing Josh Heupel’s system.

For Tennessee fans, that’s the best offensive news they have heard in a long time.

Have you talked to the hospital social worker that was assigned to your case? Sometimes they are invaluable in helping with the medical side.

Our hospital has a required amount of community care dollars each year that we prefer to use with our patients in need. If it isn’t used, then we write a check for the unused amount to a charity of our choice. We prefer to use it with our patients, but it’s good either way. I would check if your hospital has that requirement.

Ask for your medical records. Find out why they brought in 6 different specialties. If it’s at the UT hospital, it’s probably because it’s a teaching hospital. You can challenge each specialty as to whether they were needed or not.

How long were you in the hospital? I don’t want to get personal, but if you want to send me an email, I will be happy to provide any help sorting things out to decrease your monetary obligations…

No Weezer, don’t need anymore newdz😐

I'm happy you enjoyed the previous batch, but you should really see my latest set of pics. I tried a new lighting technique.

I agree.

Nobody will be able to pry my 2017 TM Spider, red, offset, toe hung out of my hands. Best non-custom putter I have ever rolled with.
I have a bag full of putters, none of them work. A few Scottys , flat black Spider… all of them garbage or maybe it’s my green reading skills

You sound like you've reached the final stages of putting pergatory. 2 steps remain in your journey grasshopper. First, try an arm lock putter. After that, you jump the shark and go broomstick. That's where I finally ended up. Old age and back problems made it my only real choice. Good luck.

Back then…. You had several chances…. Too many and you were done.

3 strikes at least. Also Staley blew up weight wise (wonder why?) and Im not sure he ever resurfaced anywhere. If he did, he wasnt near the #1 WR. You could field a damn great team with just the players Tennessee booted for weed in the 90s.......

Joe Milton is listed as a R-SR. Does he have a Covid year for next season?

Just looking ahead. Nico vs Milton vs Jackson will be wild.
yes he does

even though we are putting all of our eggs in the Nico basket, I wouldn't be surprised if Joe starts 2023

the craziest thing about him is that EVERYONE that sees him throw is blown away. staff, writers, other coaches. the temptation will always remain to keep refining his arm. his toolset is absurd, he just doesn't have the accuracy/touch.

remember when he went to the optometrist last year mid-season? that was a fun time on here

I looked him up….. Staley turned his life around…. Came back…. Graduated from Tenn and then liberty….. he is now a pastor in Minnesota.

Great to hear.......staying on that road leads to prison or worse.....

Personally, I think he has all the tools. I just suspect he gets wide eyes and a little overly excited in game-time situations and overthrows are the result. I suspect he needs sports psychologist refinement more than physical refinement. Similar to golfers working on the mental aspects of their games.

This is what I think is his problem..adrenaline kicks in and he wigs out.

Dustin Moore smelled like weed every time I got in an elevator with him. He was dismissed because he basically had a pot farm in his dorm room. He was going to be an incredible TE. Had NFL high round pick written all over him.

Adrenaline is a helluva drug. lol

And it shows up in many golf tourneys. Someone who's been dialed in all tourney suddenly takes the Sunday lead with three to play, and you see him hit his 9 iron 15 yards farther than normal. Ends up in the drink, laying three and the tourney passes him by.

After 30 years of inconsistent putting, I went to a fairly heavy Adams mallet putter. The weight usually prevents me from getting too wristy, which is when I miss left or right.

I also do "spot" putting like Trevino used to do; aim for a spot that's on the line I want, instead of aiming at the hole.
