My take on things football wise. TL;dr notification.
Gonna leave it up to Danny to fix Neyland at some point. Not gonna sit on a backless bench seat at my age and can't see anyway for all the people standing for 4 hours in front of me, which I physically cannot do. So I will contribute financially and watch at home or with friends on the big screen in a comfortable environment and miss the game day experience I once enjoyed. At least we have neighborhood parties and such to cheer the Vols on.
Heup is going to get this done in spectacular fashion and I hate I will probably not be able to experience it in person because the facility cannot accommodate me and others like me. But that is just how it is.
I am not a curmudgeon, just getting older. It happens to everybody eventually if you live long enough. I totally support the players who give/gave their all for Tennessee. I think NIL and the transfer portal are a godsend for our program. I want the players to make every dime they can make. They are giving up their bodies and time for our enjoyment. Never understood why a HC could make millions and bolt on the players he signed, yet, the NCAA and school expect them to get nothing except the scholarship benefits. How about the damages caused by the coach, NCAA and schools for not doing their best for the players to enhance their preferred athletic careers?
Josh Dobbs had a preferred career if football did not work out. He was extremely qualified to pursue it. Yet, when it came time to choose that education related career or professional sports - which did he choose? Look at Myron Rolle. Does neurosurgery now, chose the NFL over medicine first. He was proven to be a marginal NFL player before doing so, just like Dobbs. Time to acknowledge that the vast majority of college athletes will and do make the same choice.
As to the value of that scholarship and education - how many college educated people do you personally know who are not doing what they were educated to do with their work lives? A lot. The education degree prequalifies you to be considered for a job or career in your chose field of study, It does not insure you receiving a job. For the college athletes who take a lot of time and effort out of their lives to pursue their dreams, they are also taking time away from the education they would normally receive. That says to me very loudly - compensate them as much as our capitalistic economy provides.
That's a lot of words to say that Sankey, Saban and such can go pound sand. The day Sankey is gone should be a national holiday, at worst a Tennessee state holiday. He's doing his best to screw over a bunch of member schools, players, fans, etc. Saban is a hyprcrite just like Kiffin - just for different reasons.
