Gaffigan has some pretty good stuff, but when does that weird whisper voice, it’s like nails on a chalkboard to me
He used that weird whisper voice to perfection early on, but he's lost the touch with that. It was the best part of his act 7-8 years ago.

Even then though, I wouldn't say he's best ever.

Talking Heads at TN Theater was my first date with my wife.

Have also seen Byrne with St Vincent when they were doing their duo thing. Everything he touches is gold (not that St Vincent isn't really good on her own...).

We all assumed you were a fan of...

Gerry Dee is a clean comedian (but still says G+D which is baffling to me if you're "clean" but I digress) he had one special "No Reading Ahead" that's amazing. But he kind of got the Drew Carey treatment and became a TV host/star...so even though he tours doing stand-up still he only has the one featured special. I need to catch more of his show "mr. d" it's pretty good.

Stephen Wright ( funniest)
Mitch Hedberg (cool yet weird af)
Louis CK( truly the master)
Anthony Jeselnick( best style)
Bo Burnham ( best young comic today)
Zack Galifinakis (live at the purple onion is gold)
Dave Attell (the comedians' comedian)

All have incredible specials. I like a lot of others but thats my list if I had to pick.
You're a Nazi if George Carlin is not on your list.

From my own googling, Carlin or Pryor may be considered GOATs, but there's no real consensus.

Jmo but the GOAT for 1950-2100 will come in the next couple decades. Standup is absolutely exploding and is becoming much more international (more entrants in a market just increases the odds) - it's simply amazing how many Indian comedians are popping right now, along with a few Chinese, Africans, Hispanics, and Europeans...oh and a LOT more women. It's not quite the 80% American-Jewish Male industry it used to be (a study from the late 80's stated this based on professional comedians). Not that it's a bad thing, but we simply have far more people from across the globe giving it a try. Similar to modern NBA, the increased competition raises all boats.

In the meantime, there's gonna be a lot of different opinions. I'll take Mitch Hedberg for my money, jmo.
Don Knotts has to be up there. And Robin Williams. Both have made me cry from laughing so hard, which has only happened a few times in my life.

The Tennessee and the Bijou are fantastic venues. Sounds like an awesome time.

I lost my 10 year old golden retriever last Friday to sudden cardiac death. She was laying with me on my bed and in a second, she was gone. I know the feeling. Losing a dog is the equivalent of losing a family member. It’s tough and it takes a while to get over it.
The equivalent? Nah dude

Another super weird comic that has one liners (kinda like Hedberg did) is William Montgomery. I just recently came across him while watching Kill Tony. If you like that kind of “wtf is this dude talking about” comedy, you should check him out
