The reality is Spyre hit a home run with Nico, but apparently, they blew their whole wad on him. I get they need more donors, but it's going to be hard to convince more people to give when we keep striking out on blue chips. A lot of fans are hesitant to part with their money, and as big a victory as Nico was, a lot of fans still have that "what have you done lately" mentality. And yeah, that sucks, especially for Spyre and UT, but that's what BVS has done to our fanbase. Losing Tate wasn't that big a deal to me, but it was to some. But losing Mauigoa... That's a huge loss.
People can pretend it's no big deal, but it is. This is a player that Nico was recruiting, our staff was recruiting, and Spyre was recruiting. I don't think you can pretend it's anything but a huge loss.

Just makes the rebuild slower.

We have to prove more on the field.

You have no idea if we "blew our wad".

It's like a portfolio. You have to allocate resources strategically and plan for the future.

Callahan said he actually agreed with how we handled it NIL wise. Miami just went nuts and we weren't willing to. That's ok. We (Spyre or who the hell ever) have to be smart, not short-term thinkers and focused on 1 player, at a developmental and high variance position at that.

Yeah I wasn't believing the Tate hype with OHST in the mix, but this is a bit concerning... We are talking about Miami who hasn't done squat either and is in a BS conference... Recruits take notice... this isn't a good look for us and Nico right now... folks and recruits will start asking if there's something else up because all indications on the outside look like locks...
Not a troll but a realist here, looking at how we've been for the past 15yrs--- we are going to have to get by on 3* and a few 4* for the next few years and hope we can outplay and out develop our kids over the KY SC Vandy Mizz, cause I don't see us getting elite kids until something changes...

It's a chicken and egg syndrome for Spyre. They need the money to pay the players, but fans want to see some results before they buy in. Spyre needs to be hitting the big donors hard and point out how Ruiz is single-handedly funding Miami's NIL and buying them top prospects. Many of the common fans want to see Spyre succeeding (with more than Nico) before they themselves part with their hard-earned money. I see both sides of the dilemma. Not sure what the solution is other than the big money helping out more until the smaller donors start chipping in.

Manning affect > Nico affect

By far.

for as cool and trendy as Nico is - no one wants to play with him.

In all fairness the state of the program was much different when Manning was here. That combined with the fact the he was already a household name thanks to his dad made Peyton’s job much easier than Nico’s.

^This Schools are buying players left and right and Tn keeps striking out on top players and we all know it comes down to money. Ruiz is looking for a loophole now in Nico NIL deal and he will end up in Miami lol

Really thought we had Mauigoa. I'm now very concerned with our overall recruiting. I still think we get some players, but I'm concerned if we fill all of our needs.
