Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

One of my buddies, who is a Maryland fan, relayed some info from their 247 forum. Jeff Ermann said that he's been told that Tennessee has a $20 million dollar NIL pool to work with. It was being discussed when the Seldon trending to Tennessee news started leaking.

Is that a somewhat accurate number?

@MetalVolunteer @matts42012 @Stoerner Fumbles @BigSteve09

That one was nuts too. Totally different from regular climbing. Just as intense as Free Solo was, for different reasons.

Dawn Wall was good too.

Haven't looked for new climbing films recently...hopefully they keep making things like that. I'd watch one every weekend if I could.

Doesnt appeal to me at all. What does is the human story.

Andre's family, girlfriend, the respect earned from climbers drive the narrative for me.

may want to include @WillAtSpyre

He's been a great wealth of knowledge. Especially when I sarcastically and facetiously demanded a look at Spyre's books.

Both parts are great imo. That's true of free solo and dawn wall as well. The documentarian and editors do a great job of threading the human story into them, making them even better.

Watched a different one other day.

Well, it was free solo. Good movie, diff type story.

Enjoyed it. I truly believe it takes a different type of mindset - as Eric Greitens explains in his autobiography - for folks who can endure extreme physical and mental stress & perform above or at their peak - in those times.

Shouldnt come as any surprise that the guy in this doc tested waay above that of average folks in the oxygen and endurance tests.

Didn't Honnold also test in some way showing he had an abnormal amygdala or other part of his brain? He basically didn't have a normal sense of fear.

He's the true definition of "built different" 😆

not sure how we'd access that information pre mortem.

id say I have a regular amygdala, personally. I love backpacking ans hiking. Busting your ace up switchbacks, overlooking God's scenery to an ascent of 1500-2000 ft, up to - staggering 3800 ft of elevation🤪. Takes no oxygen masks and no sherpa-sherpas.

29,000 ft? No thanks.

Making moves with Osborne and Simmons...stud trench players.

Sounds like that Mauigoa money is being reallocated real fast and decisively.
it certainly appears we're pushing in that direction. if it works out we were able to land those two, i'd say money well spent, and timing wise, it works out that FM committed now vs. later.

i would imagine this was the plan all along...maybe plan is the wrong word? lol.

Just watched a preview for the documentary "free solo". It's apparently about this dude that climbs el Capitan with no ropes in under 4hrs.

oh, this is a great movie. i watched it a couple of years ago i think? anyway...yeah, awesome footage, and amazing people that do this kind of stuff. they're not right in the head mind you, but amazing none the less. i'll be just fine watching the video...lol.

Watching some of the uga game from last year maybe my only complaint from Heupel is that in 2nd and short situations it always seems like he was so stubborn to run the ball no matter what. When corners are this far off receivers why don’t we just get the ball to them for a few yards? I’m not a football guru so I could be wrong with something but the defense is giving that to us, instead it seems like we get a little hard headed and run it against one of the best rush defenses ever

@GregAmsler got me thinking.

If Heupel were to stock our offense with all 3 star players that fit his system (just think UCF), and let's says his defense finished 4th or 5th in the SEC (UK/Auburn last year) does he win the conference?

I think we should honestly use most of our NIL on defense because I think Heupel can win here with just about anyone that fits his system on offense.

Yep. Tennessee has to focus on defense. Even with the offenses of today, defense will still win a championship.

Yep. I’ve said as much. Heupel doesn’t have to get the high ranking guys on offense to score. He has to get fits. But defense requires studs. It’s just too hard to scheme around lack of superior athletes on D. So like you say, use NIL money to land studs on D (and QB when you find an elite guy), then recruit system guys for offensive skill positions.

If you think about it, that’s what the Belichick/Brady Patriots dynasty did.

You normally throw quick game to the boundary, and the boundary wideout is the one being pressed there. However, a hitch to the slot would essentially be the same thing in this scenario I guess. You just have to get it over the end before the corner breaks.

Heupel’s offense is based on numbers in the box. Right there, there are 6 in the box for UGA, and we have 6 blocking. Theoretically, the RB should have space in that scenario, I would think. The problem is that UGA’s DL was so good that they could defend with equal numbers. I do agree that the slot is open on a slant, but Hooker is taught to read the numbers.
