There are apps for wildlife and plants that do this but they're not always accurate. Especially with reptiles. Honestly the fastest response you're going to get is to join an ID group on facebook. Join the group beforehand and when you come across one snap a pic, post it, and ahould get a professional's ID quickly. Tennessee Snake Identification and Education Page is a good one if you're in TN.

Cool, thanks. Good reference to look up. Apps are not always accurate, but I think this would be good. People love to take pics of snakes. You should develop the app. As long as you let Volnation name it and have funny quips throughout it. It could be a big hit.

Edit: My bad, only let the Recruiting forum name it.

There is some merit to what he said. Different sport, but a high school boys soccer team beat a national team. I do think some junior high teams could compete against the bottom of the league.
Maybe in a rare exception, but I doubt a single junior high team could beat a wnba team. Certainly the league is not "on par with junior high basketball."

I think the hardest identification of snakes is between the cottonmouth and the Northern Brown Water Snake. I'm good with most others, but those 2 trip me up all the time unless I get really close and I dont want to get really close to a cottonmouth.
The watersnakes often trip folks up. Biggest thing to look for are the vertical lines on the mouth (labial lines) which watersnakes and kingsnakes have, but our vipers do not. Watersnakes also have their eyes positioned on top of their heads, whereas the vipers have a "hooded eye" where the eyes can't be seen from directly above. Our common watersnake (Nerodia sipedon) (3rd & 4th pic) is often mistaken for both cottonmouths and copperheads due to the pattern and being in and around water. They'll also flatten their heads into a triangle (4th pic) for intimidation which is why headshape alone isn't what you should rely on.

Tennessee also has broad-banded/Southern watersnakes (Nerodia fasciata confluens) along the MS River which get mistaken for cottonmouths, and the diamond-backed and plain-bellied watersnakes (mostly west TN species) are also often mistaken for them because the patterns and those snakes can get fairly large. But in all cases, the eye position and labial lines don't lie.

Wow...I am so jealous...no western trips for me this year. Those Lakers get huge, I have always wanted to go out on Flathead lake with a guide someday and catch a few.

The trout that I caught made me work for 15 minutes to land it. We were gigging at 80 feet deep. Every time I would get it headed up, it would turn and dive back down. The guide took about 10 pictures as it was the biggest lake trout he had seen this season. Just an awesome experience. That my son and I were able to do it together made it that much more fun.1568BA71-C0B1-4D1D-B710-9BEE0E8D75DC.jpeg

Agreed, but we can agree that there are high school/AAU teams out there that can beat professional women.
Different sport, but - there has never been a college football team that could beat any NFL team.

The team that beat the USWNT soccer team wasn’t merely a high school boys soccer team. FC Dallas U15 team is who beat them in a scrimmage but this is an academy team that is ranked the #1 academy in the US. So, a random high school boys soccer team isn’t who beat them which is the way that it seems to be portrayed a lot of the time in conversation.

Overall though, it’s not that irregular either. Brazils womens team lost to a U17 boys academy team. England womens team lost to Arsenals academy team. So the overall point of younger elite boys can beat the USWNT is true, not trying to dispute that. I just wanted to point out that the younger boys team that beat them are some of the best young players in the US.

@SoilVol

You ever thought of making an app that identifies snakes quickly? Like if you see one in the woods or back porch.

My instinct is to back way off or run. But if I knew it was a king snake or rat snake then that’s cool. The app could be out there, but just an idea..

There are already apps out that that do this.

Maybe but tell me when was the last time little league age softball or elementary school girls basketball got support on par with the boys? There's no difference at that age. In fact, the girls tend to be ahead of the boys so if it's about the superior athlete we should at that age be watching girls but we're not. It's not about the superior athlete. It's about a lot of things.
My daughter plays lower level college basketball….. I love womens sports but the boys are way ahead athletically even at elementary school ages…in High school…. My daughters team lost in the semi-final of the State championship…. They practiced against the boys baseball team and could barely even get a shot off due to the physical differences.

Yeah, but there’s not a Recruiting Forum snake identifier app out there. C’mon man!

Good to know about the apps… Will look them up.

Haha ahh okay. So like create an app that all of recruiting forum can use and when you post a picture it just goes straight to @SoilVol to analyze and tell us what it is? Make the password to get in just be any of the VN Recruiting Forum lexicons.

The Australian womens team lost to a U15 boys team as well…. I like womens sports…. It will be hard to develop a huge following due to everyone knowing the mens teams are better…. Sort of like the XFL…. Hard to gain a following when everyone knows the NFL is a lot better… I don’t know what the answer is to grow the women’s game.

ANd you know what, there is nothing wrong with that. There are physical limitations. I think the best thing for women to do is play a variation of the men's sport. Volleyball is more fun to watch with women playing than men. Softball is a better game than baseball. All women's basketball should lower the height of the basket to 9 ft. and go to a smaller court. I think seeing the wide spacing on the court makes the women look much slower compared to men. Softball is a condensed version of baseball and it looks so much faster because of the more confined area.

I agree with this, but most women who play basketball get super butthurt by the idea of lowering the goal. It's like you stole their puppy.

LSU, Pitt and especially Kentucky is downright funny. I am laughing at those odds. Do they think Kentucky is going to beat us this year after losing to us last year at home with us having the ball for only 13 minutes? LSU is absolutely starting over and we only have a 32% chance in that game? Pitt lost some really major pieces on offense. Defense may be good, but their offense will be more 1 dimensional this year without Pickett and Addison. Are they really going to score more than we will? These 3 games honestly we should be favored in. I need some of what they're smoking.

You may be looking at this through orange colored glasses. LSU still has more talent than us and has a veteran coach. Pitt has an excellent defensive line and we’re playing at their place. The Kentucky game came down the absolute wire. It was a blow for blow fight to the end.

I’m not saying we lose to them all, but the Pitt odds don’t surprise me with our offensive line and LSU is a tough place to play and still has a talented roster.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but FPI doesn’t have an input for opinion, does it? Isn’t it using data from previous seasons to predict future outcomes?

There is no “they”. It’s a formula.
