Needed gas while passing through Ardmore today for work, which straddles the TN/AL border. Passed up the less-busy Bammer-side stations to pull into the much busier, less-convenient TN-side ones because football season is nearing and I’m petty like that.

Good job passing gas in Alabama.

The gas stations on the TN AL border are quite interesting. Last time I was in one, half the store was devoted to tables and chairs with a thing of coins in the middle of each (for scratch off players).

I don’t think we get either cb as of right now….. it’s all about roster building and I feel we are doing a great job at that… Keep growing our brand and recruiting will keep improving…. It’s just August…. There will be more players that we either identify as potential Vols or we will address it in the transfer portal.
JMO, but people need to stop assuming we'll be able to find what we need in the portal. First, we have no idea who will enter the portal. No idea if high level talent at the positions we need will be out there. Second, even if they are, we have no idea if they'll pick us. People keep mentioning the portal as if it will solve all of our problems, but it is just as unguaranteed as high school recruiting. You can't just assume the portal will fix everything.

Tell a fan to tell a fan! We have to maintain this spot if we want to continue the big wins like Nico, and KEEP our best guys. We have to be a mile ahead of the second best if we want to stop missing on transfers and losing recruits (like big boy OL) to other teams.

lol. John Ruiz at #2. How is one man a "collective"?

Not. Messing. Around.
JMO, but our coaches need to be free to encourage the fans to give just like other coaches around the country are doing. Ryan Day has done it. Nick Saban has done it. Our coaches need to follow suit and encourage fans to help with NIL. I have no idea if the rumors about restrictions being placed by Donde and/or DW are true, but if they are, they need to be lifted. NIL is an important part of the new landscape, and our coaches need to be able to use it like other coaches do.

Brother I just did the same thing on Monday. I wore my Tennessee polo too.

Actually that would be you that's missing the forest.

They do all those things.... and the further away from a handful of proven programs they get the less their ratings predict either individual or team success on the field. So even doing those things... they aren't very accurate.

It isn't perfect for a lot of reasons but with everything considered the NFL draft is a good benchmark for the recruiting ratings. About 60% of the 30+/- 5* recruits in each class will eventually be drafted. You would be tempted to say, "See there"... but then you have to realize that they arbitrarily limit the number of 5* and 4* ratings they give. Here's a rough analogy. Say you were asked to pick 30 beautiful girls out of a crowd of 10,000 women. Now let's say that someone chose 224 of them to be models for lots of money... and they chose 18 of the 30 you chose. That's OK, right? Not great but not bad. But what if your standard was finding all 224. How would that 18 plus 70 of your next (4*) group be?

Less than half of any NFL draft will be made up of 4/5* players. Overall, only 20% or so of the guys they give 4/5* ratings will be drafted. If they were as accurate as some like to believe then that percentage would be much, much higher.

The point is that they aren't as accurate as you guys think and they use arbitrary limits on the number of blue chip ratings they hand out to make themselves look more accurate than they actually are. That is NOT a problem if you keep in mind what their business is... what gets them paid. They do not get paid to identify 5* prospects for Saban. They get paid by satiating fans who are hungry for information and affirmation of their favorite team.

About 20% of the 300-400 that get 4* will get drafted. Honestly, that's not very good at all considering those guys are supposed to be obviously more talented and skilled than the other 18,000+ who will get or be considered for a football scholarship each year. There are about 900 football programs in the NCAA. Lower levels have fewer scholarships so an average of maybe 20 per team each year.

There ARE companies out there tasked with finding the talent top programs need to compete. They are genuine recruiting consultants who do in depth evaluations on possible targets. How well they do followed with how well a coaching staff does of filtering through their evaluations and recommendations determines whether a team signs talent or not. Saban and a few others have a proven process for finding and signing elite players. Dabo did too but for whatever reason the recruiting sites didn't buy into him early on. Later when they recognized he was building talented rosters... POOF! Clemson starts being at the top of the recruiting rankings. The horse.... led the cart.

OMG lol. I really don't know what else to say to you other than No coaches can win titles in the SEC with a roster full of 3 stars. It's never, ever going to happen because the 3 stars are too watered down with inferior players. There are plenty of 4 and 5 star busts, but you have much better odds of finding superior players with a roster full of those. That cannot be denied.

People also seem to forget Saban wasn't always SABAN.

He stepped into LSU after being a ho-hum Spartans HC and all he did was land top 4 classes in 3 of his 4 full classes there.

Then he came to Bama after flopping in the NFL. By then he had a bit more respect on his name after his LSU days, but still a far far cry from now. And what did he do? Took Bama from recruiting 12th-23rd and immediately lands #3, #3, #4, #1 classes.

He got the best talent...the classes didn't simply appear that way to appease some mediocre Michigan St coach lol.

Right, and look at Notre Dames current class. They are tearing it up right now. The coordinator took over there.

Ayahuasca. Same thing Ron White said helped him.

Also admitted to taking mushrooms. Oddly, also same as Ron White who microdoses for mental health purposes.

Ketamine is becoming a popular thing as well for such things.

Brave new world out there.
I hear toad venom is the way to go. Mike Tyson swears by it.

Is Dixon in the same eligibility limbo as Bru?
Me thinks he'd have to be. And from what Adam Sparks just tweeted, it sounds like that process is the next step for him.

Otoh Callahan said he was told he'd be immediately eligible.

Otooh every ncaa doc I've seen alludes to him needing one. 1) he entered the portal after May 1. Have to enter before if you want the one-time exception. 2) he's transferred before.

That said, grad waivers can be super easy as long as he comes in under a grad program not offered at WVU. Shouldn't be that hard.

Hamilton Morris (Hamilton's Pharmacopeia) did that once. The Sonoran Desert Toad. Season 2.

Need to go back and rewatch that show. Extremely interesting stuff. Vice TV used to be so good 😑

WVU has one grad program and it involves the 64 pack of crayons so yeah, he should be good.

I think we live in about the same area. I guess it's time for me to start 'passing gas' as well.
