I've heard west downtown Baltimore, around Harlem Park, is a great area. Right where they shot the tv hit The Wire. Just bring your smile, a brownbag lunch, and a neighborly wave and you'll fit right in.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll do that when I hit up Baltimore in 2 weeks at Johns Hopkins hospital for my meetings.

Probably should do that on the way to the hospital though.

I currently live in the other DMV (Delaware/Maryland/Virginia - Delmarva Peninsula) ie. Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

I have a good friend in Frederick. I also have friends in Fredericksburg, VA. Both great areas. Just stay out of Baltimore and you basically can't go wrong. North Virginia and Western Maryland are nice.

Edit to add: I know Frederick is also short driving distance to the Jersey Shore, Ocean City Maryland, Eastern Shore VA, Gettysburg, Philly, and pretty much anywhere in the Central Appalachians you could want to go.

Heard some good things about Frederick. Definitely leaning towards a place like that.

Lots of Breweries, strong local community support with schools and businesses and outdoor activities and location.

8 hour drive to Knoxville is doable over a long weekend for a few Vol home games.

How does it compare to a place like Knoxville?

Heard great things about Delaware especially the coastal area (Rehoboth Beach).

Looking forward to getting back in the 4 season weather cycle again.

Manufacturing coming back somewhat with semiconductor factories coming back onshore with chips act and global uncertainty with Russia and China. Companies might be rethinking oh wait the security of manufacturing in the most powerful and geopolitically secure nation in history might be worth more in the long run than a cheap buck with cheap foreign labor. 🤔 imagine that.
US Factory Boom Heats Up as CEOs Yank Production Out of China

It sounds straightforward, but bringing meaningful levels of manufacturing back to the US will make our recent 10% inflation look tame in comparison. For the last 60 years we've been exporting dollars and debt in exchange for foreign goods and oil. We've basically used the global economy as an inflation sink for our domestic monetary/fiscal laxity. If those trade deficits reverse, so does the surplus in the capital account, which means our dollars and debt come flowing back onshore, i.e., foreigners selling dollars and treasuries.

Then factor in the knowledge deficit (e.g., massive shortfall of the engineers needed), infrastructure deficit (factories, transportation, etc), energy deficit (already a large net importer), resource deficit (concrete, copper, steel, rare earth metals) and trained labor deficit. On the plus side, employment will go up as every able bodied adult goes looking for a job. On the minus side, they'll be looking for work because savings are worthless and incomes can't keep up with the cost of living. It may be better than the alternative, if enough people manage to run faster than the inflation treadmill.

This is true. Another example of how government involvement, in pretty much anything, usually turns out bad.

Edit: weird that this posted a second time, a couple of hours later.
I would contend that if the federal government would quit poking their big fat noses into the education and leave it to the states like the 10th amendment says they should then each state would be better able to offer more options to their schools. Bloat and overly broad requirements from the Depth of Education doesn't help the situation.

I haven't spent any time in Frederick to compare it to Knoxville. I live in BFE on the shore. I've just heard good things.

If the job opportunity is in Frederick, MD, you might want to consider living in the small section of West Virginia that is only 15 miles or so from Frederick. I know people who moved there out of VA and MD to save money and are glad they did. I echo all that everyone else has said, you are 3-4 hours drive away from some awesome things and a day's drive away from even more.

I really needed some good football news. Had to bury my dog that would have been 15 years old in October today. My daughter had to help me dig a grave deep enough for a German Shepherd because my husband had to work. It’s not been a good day.
I’m sorry and prayers to all of you for a short grieving process.

God bless you and you're in our prayers.

Thank you!
I suspect you and my wife would get along amazingly well.
