Zero. The dude had -39 rushing yards and who knows how many sacks. Even QD and McBride both ended with positive yards. I've never seen a supposedly athletic guy get chased down so much.

The line was getting killed and he sat in the pocket too long. Dude isn’t a stick figure back there though.

Been very suprised at how unathletic he looks in the pocket. He is clearly a straightline speed guy which doesn't help much at QB. Robotic and too much thinking about his mechanics in the pocket. JG is def more of a pro style QB than expected so I guess it works out with the new staff

What’s the pre-injury excuse?

Don’t have any don’t need any. He doesn’t scramble well and he holds the ball too long. But when he kept it on designed runs he was fine and looked plenty fast. He isn’t dobbs, but when he knows he is running he runs fine.

He has the best arm talent on the team tho and it isn’t close. He also doesn’t throw it to the other team 3-5 times a game like Dormady and McBride so I don’t know why this is even a discussion

I think a lot of people when talking about Guarantano's mobility compare him to Dobbs too much, Dobbs was a once in a generation player and its not fair to Guarantano. He's not gonna be able to pull of 40-50 yard runs like Dobbs could but he's plenty capable of getting 10 yards at a time when he picks the right time to run

Dobbs was playing on a team with 19 first round draft picks and 12 future hofs

I mean the discussion was about his failure to live up to the true DT QB billing. Not sure what that has to do with arm talent but sure we can shift the talk if you’d like.

Imo JG has the physical tools to move around and be an adequate scrambler out of the pocket. He will never scare you with his legs but can use them.

However his instincts just plainly said aren't there. He really has no feel for the pocket. It's the mental not physical issues that hurt him in the pocket.

A prerequisite for any QB, especially when O-line protection stinks, is the ability to think quickly. McBride processed what he saw faster than any of them. He just lacked live fire experience. JG has the best overall skillset by far. However, he needs to process what he sees much faster and throw it away if nothing is there. Taking the heavy QB run emphasis off the O scheme should be able to help all 3 of them. Just use it occasionally to throw the D off. Whether our OC called the plays for potential QB runs or not, the scheme was designed to make it look that way, which subjected them to more hits. There are very few to no more Dobbs type QB's out there that could make that scheme look better than it was.
